Mr. Preas was born in Roanoke, Va., a son of the late Fred Garland Preas, Sr. and Lucille Coleman Preas. He was a United States Army Veteran and a 35 year employee and regional manager for AT&T in Virginia. Mr. Preas was a member of First United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for many years. He was predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Preas Murray and his brother, George Robert Preas. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jean DeWeese Preas of Conway, S.C; one son, CAPT Michael Preas, USN of Washington, DC; one daughter, Susan Preas Trotter and her husband, Mitchell and their two daughters, Jessica and April of Katy, Texas; B.J. Preas, wife of George Preas of Roanoke, Va. and their children, Kelly Leigh Preas of Oslo, Norway and George R. Preas, II of Annapolis, Md; Robert Murray, husband of Geraldine and their son, Barry and his wife, Kathy, all of Roanoke, Va., and his special friend, Katy, Fred and Jean's schauzer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel with Senior Pastor Ken Timmerman officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen Wilson Surgener and husband John A., Berea, Ken., Diane Igo Stanley and husband Clifford L., Amherst, Va., Donna Igo Self and husband, Johnnie L., Christiansburg; grandchildren, Chet Surgener, Jason A. Surgener, Gwendolyn Ashcraft and husband Randy, Ethan L. Stanley and wife Beth, Johnnie L. Self, Jr. and wife Amy, Denny Self; one great-grandson, Lee Harrison Ashcraft; a brother, Robert Roy Lucas, Jr., Christiansburg; several nieces and nephews, as well as many close friends at Warm Hearth Village. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 1001 at the Horne Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. James T. Bayne, with entombment to follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Warm Hearth Foundation, 2603 Warm Hearth Dr., Blacksburg, Va. 24060. The family will receive friends at the Horne Funeral Service from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. on July 20, 2001.1
