The train was running about two hours late when the engine left the rails on a sharp curse, turned over and was smashed. Four of the steel cars went over embankment, one of them landing a meadow fifty feet from the track. Baggage, express and mail sacks were scattered all around. Fireman C. A. Muck was buried and smashed under the wreck and engineer John Turner received injuries from which he died at 8:30 o'clock in a sanitarium in Bluefield. Several passengers and mail clerks were badly shaken up, but escaped without serious injuries. The cause of the wreck has not been determined. on August 30, 1918.4
