Theodore Jarrell was buried at Lawson Cemetery, Colcord, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.4 He was born on November 20, 1884 at Jarrolds Valley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia; His death certificate has a birth date of Oct 10, 1884.2,3,4 He married Mintie Angeline Perry circa 1909.5 Theodore Jarrell died on December 17, 1920 at Colcord, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 36.2,4,6 He Sherman Mays, a white man of Dorothy, may face a double murder charge as the result of a shooting affray in which he was the principal actor last Thursday night. Theodore Jarrell, white, is dead, and Theodore Roach, colored, lies near death in the Sheltering Arms hospital at Hansford with five bullet wounds in his right side. Mays and Jarrell are alleged to have been partners in the business of making and selling moonshine liquor in that section for some time. The bulk of it is said to have been disposed of through the negro, Roach, who lives near Lawson. He had come to Dorothy after a supply, going first to the home of Mays. What transpired there is not known, but he then went to the home of Jarrell. After a time Mays followed him there, and on entering the house asked Jarrell’s wife to leave, saving that Roach had less than 15 minutes to live. Sensing trouble Mrs. Jarrell started away, but had not left the house before the shooting commenced. As she got outside the husband threw open the door and cried out to her that he had been shot. Within the house the shooting continued and when it subsided Roach was found with five bullet wounds ranging up and down his right side from his shoulder to the short ribs. He slated all were inflicted by Mays as he, Roach, was gripping the gun in an effort to divert the bullets from his body. Mays was arrested, and at a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Alfred Williams was placed under a $5,000 bond to face indictment. Under the law a man accused of murder cannot he bonded by a justice of the peace, and therefore a new warrant has been issued against him. His re-arrest is expected to follow, and he will either he placed in the county jail or a new bond will be given before Judge McGinnis, of the Criminal Court. on December 23, 1920.6
