The couple made their home in Leland where Durby operated a corn shelling and trucking business and also served as mayor for a few years. In 1958, they moved to Longmont, Colo., where Durby worked with a seed com company. In 1965, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he began working new home sales. He retired in 1984. Following a lengthy illness, Durby died Nov. 28, 1996, at a Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. Durby loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hiking Squaw Peak Mountain near their home in Phoenix and was an avid Phoenix Suns fan. Survivors include his wife DeLores; two daughters, Gwendyth (Mrs. Chuck) Carstens and LoAnn Durby, both of Phoenix, Ariz; a son, Lon Durby of Scottsdale, Ariz; two sisters and their spouses, Dorothy and Albert Guhl of Jewell and Ruby and Dean Farland of Thompson; two-brothers and their spouses, Merle and Bianche Durby of Leland and Marlo and Bethel Durby of Lake Mills, two grandchildren, Lisa Ann Dane and John William Durby; and a great-grand child, Taylor Ashley. Bonnie grew up in O’Neil, and her family would eventually move to Lincoln where she attended Lincoln Northeast High School. While living in Lincoln, Bonnie met Harvey Sieck. Then on March 26, 1965 Harvey and Bonnie would get married in Lincoln. They then moved to Osceola for a few years and eventually to Stromsburg where they would spend the next 43 years. Harvey and Bonnie were married for 52 years and they meant everything to one another. While living in Stromsburg, Bonnie worked for Midwest Covenant Homes until her retirement in May of 2017. She was an avid camper, and loved to ride her bike. Her best friend was her mother, until her passing, but her greatest loves were for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and especially for her beloved husband, Harvey. Bonnie previously attended the Catholic Church in Osceola, and currently was attending the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harvey of Stromsburg; her children, Roger (Teresa) Sieck of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jeanne (Tim) Koehn of Grand Island, Connie (Pepper) David of Topeka, Kan. and Steven (Tracey) Sieck of York; her siblings, John (Carol) Johns, Joseph (Terrill) Johns, Julie (Andy) Young, Jennifer (Terry) Bloom and Jeff (Beth) Johns; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Scott and Lillie Johns, and her sister-in-laws, Rosemary Sieck and Margaret Sieck. on September 5, 2017.3

     Harvey Lee Sieck Harvey Lee Sieck, 72, of Stromsburg, died on Friday, September 22, 2017 at York General Hospital in York. Harvey Lee Sieck was born on May 31, 1945 to Leland and Ruth Marie (Rasmussen) Sieck in Lincoln. Harvey grew up in the Lincoln area, graduating from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1963. Following his graduation Harvey joined the United States Navy, and was honorably discharged due to his father passing away. Following his honorable discharge, Harvey married Bonnie Jean Johns on March 26, 1965 in Lincoln. Harvey was working for the Union Pacific Railroad in Lincoln at the time, until moving back to Stromsburg where he began working for Tom Kreis Drywalling. In 1980, Harvey began working for the city of Stromsburg, where he continued to work for 31 years, retiring in 2011. While working for the city, he received an award for 25 years of outstanding, loyal, and faithful service towards the public utility industry. After his retirement, he then began to help Scott and Terri Larson on their farm. Harvey was baptized on September 9, 1945 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln. While living in Stromsburg he attended the United Methodist Church. Those left to cherish his memory are his children – Roger (Teresa) Sieck of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeanne (Tim) Koehn of Grand Island, Connie (Pepper) David of Topeka, KS, and Steven (Tracey) Sieck of York; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He served during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Cocopa. He was awarded the National Defense Service and Vietnam Service Medals. He married Carol Witt Young on October 5, 1985 in Banning, California. Mr. Johns retired as Chief Engineer from Lawrence Welk Desert Oasis Country Club after 19 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go camping. He enjoyed bowling for more than twenty years. He also loved to ride motorcycles. He was founder and Past President of Star 460 Motorcycle Group. For several years he met with friends and other motorcyclist for an early cup of coffee and conversation every morning at 5:30 a.m. at the Starbucks in La Quinta. Mr. Johns is survived by his loving wife Carol Johns of La Quinta, his two daughters; Rebecca Zerba of Pratt, KS and Lisa Hill of Bloomington, CA, two stepdaughters; Cheryle Lopez of Rohnert Park, CA and Deborah Heffernan of Homosassa, FL. Four siblings; Joe (Terrill), Julie (Andy), Jennifer (Terry) and Jeff (Beth). Two sisters-in-law; Judy Cox and Bonnie (Fred) Jacobsen. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Bonnie (Harvey) Sieck. on October 20, 2017.4
