Born in Callison, she was a Cum Laude graduate of Lander College in 1977 and retired from Monsanto after many years of service. He was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Ninety Six, where she taught TEL Sunday school class. Surviving are sons, Edward Jean Gentry Jr. of Lompoc, Calif., James Roger Gentry and William Davis Gentry, both of Ninety Six; daughters, Betty Rebecca McKittrick of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Deborah Kay Shiflet of York and Bobbie Jean Miller of Pendleton; sister, Virginia Aiton Rush of Greenwood; brother, Joseph Edmund Aiton of Greenwood; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was the widow of Edward Jean Gentry and the daughter of the late James Shepard and Mary Haupfear Aiton. Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Ninety Six by the Revs. Robin Fisher, Steve Justice and Charles Sprouse; burial will in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home, Greenwood, and will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Monday. The family is at the home on Aiton Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ninety Six, 205 Church St., Ninety Six, S.C. 29666 or to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
