In his capacity as General Foreman, Porter received numerous awards and recognition for his dedication to railroad safety. He ended his lifelong career as a railroader in 1973, leaving Kansas City and retiring to the weekend farm in Richmond, Mo. Porter was a longtime HAM radio operator and was a member of the Ray-Clay Radio Club. He was a former member of the American Legion Williams Post No. 26 in Clifton Forge, Va., and was a proud recipient of the State of Missouri WWII Veterans Award recognition. Porter will be deeply missed by his wife of 67 years, Louise Wilhelm Rayburn, of the home; his daughter, Suzette Rayburn Wells and husband, Dick, Richmond, Mo; beloved pet, Kitty Kat; his sister, Juanita Rayburn Pyle, Aztec, N.M; a nephew, Joseph Pyle and his wife, Mini, Spring, Texas; a niece, Annette Pyle Lain and husband, Allen, of Aztec, N.M; and two great-nephews. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Crowley Cemetery in Richmond, Mo., followed by graveside services at 2 p.m. Arrangements are through McGilley Antioch Funeral Home in Kansas City. Contributions are suggested to the Doberman Pinscher Club of America or Poodle Club of America. on June 21, 2007.7
