She was a founding member of the Williamsburg Players in 1957, and her lifelong love of the theater led her to appear in many productions over the years. "Gladys was a pleasure to work," said Mrs. Molly Robbins, a longtime member of the Williamsburg Players. "She acted in a lot of plays and worked in various capacities behind the scenes. She was always reliable, always knew her part down to the last word, and was someone I enjoyed working with. I had great respect for her and was very fond of her." Mrs. Manning was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Gail B. Young of Glen Burnie, Md; her daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Drew Zwald of Statesboro, and son, Herb Baras of Williamsburg; a brother, Matthew Dundrea of Alexandria; a nephew, Brent Foist of Greenfield, Ind; three stepchildren, Teresa Morse of Richmond, Lesa Williams of Hickory, N.C., and Larry Manning of Surry. Also, four grandchildren. David Hicks of Orlando, Fla., Michelle Connelly of Glen Burnie, Jami Smart of Monroe, La., and Kaylie Baras of Las Vegas, Nev; five great-grandchildren, Corey and Hunter Smart of Monroe, Mikala Connelly of Glen Burnie, Megan and Lauren Hicks of Orlando; and six step-grandchildren, Alex and Scott Morse of Richmond, Candace and Robbie Williams of Hickory, and Lee and Trevor Manning of Surry. on February 11, 2004.3
