     Mary Elizabeth Smith Mary Elizabeth Bickford, age 83, of Oak Hill, WV went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Born on October 20, 1939 at Beckwith, she was the daughter of the late Herman Smith and Virgie Myrtle Arthur Smith. Mrs. Bickford was a homemaker, and a faithful member of Sand Branch Worship Center. Her life was singing for Jesus, and spending time with her family. She loved gospel music and serving the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Russell Smith, and Jennings “Big Boy” Smith; by sisters, Catherine Wilson, Lou Wilson, and Dolly “Tootsie” McKinney; by grandson, Kenneth G. Wesley Bickford. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Charles Bickford; seven children, Carol Arrington of Fayetteville, Sharon Fink and husband Rex of Victor, Sandra Souder and husband Pastor Ken Souder of Oak Hill, Darrell Bickford of Fayetteville, Junior Bickford of Oak Hill, Michael Bickford of Beckley, and Chrystal McGuire and husband Gary of Beckley; nine grandchildren, Joyce Arrington, Joshua Bickford, Tempest Cook, Isaac McGuire, Olivia McGuire, Jared Souder, Allen Fink, Adam Fink, and Ashley Thomas; Eleven great grandchildren, Ian, Addie, Vivian, Gracie, Kennadi, Olivia Graham, Poppy Ann, Faith, Ethan, and Conner. Eldona is survived by a daughter, Kim (Mike) Swick, of Newton; son, Franklin "Buddy" Rule of Olney; four grandchildren, Jason (Mary) Hayes, of Dieterich, Jared (Adrienne) Hayes, of Manhattan, Kan., Maranda (Ryan) Rohr, of Newton, and Carlie Rule, of Bridgeport; two sisters, Barbara Cox, of Petersburg, Ind., and Shirley Pflaum, of Noble; nine great-grandchildren; and four nieces and two nephews. Eldona was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Joe Porter, and one niece. Burial was in Dundas Cemetery. on July 13, 2012.³
