Deborah attended The Church in Peaster. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie "Mama Darlin'" Whaley. Survivors: Her husband and best friend of 30 years, Ronald C. Sullivan of Springtown; children, Bobby Winkler of Fort Worth, James Michael Winkler and wife, Adrian, of Keller and Angela Lynn Sailsbury of Fort Worth; father, Jim Whaley of Rockport; sisters, Sandy Minze and Dana Aguirre; brother, Jim Whaley Jr; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. on January 12, 2010.2

Mary Marie Porterfield Mary Marie Porterfield Short McCann, 85, of Lee Street, Appomattox, died Sunday, September 6, 2020 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her first husband Jesse Berger Short and her second husband, Garland Rae McCann. Born in Carroll County, June 23, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Mary Jane Vest and John H. Porterfield. She was the owner/operator of G&M sales in Danville for 18 years. Mary loved yard sales, reading and sightseeing on the Blue Ridge Parkway. She is survived by one son, Jesse Frank Short and wife, Conny of Germany; two daughters Mary Frances Short of Evington, and Debra Short Martin and husband, Tony of Appomattox; one step-daughter, Melinda Solis of Danville; one brother, Junior “June” Porterfield and wife, Clara Mae of Elkin, NC; seven grandchildren, Larry Wayne Dalton, Sandy Short Smith, Rhiannon Durie, Joshua Anderson Martin, Kolby Alexander Martin, Christina Rosas and Austin Moore; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn Marie Short; one grandson, Clint Anderson Durie; four brothers; and four sisters.3 She was buried at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Virginia.4 She was born on June 23, 1935 at Carroll Co., Virginia.1,2,4,3,5 As of September 16, 1983,her married name was Link.1 She married Thomas Lynn "Tom" Link, son of Alvin Link and Minnie Evelyn Turner, on September 16, 1983 at Campbell Co., Virginia.1 Mary Marie Porterfield and Thomas Lynn "Tom" Link were divorced on July 5, 1990 at Campbell Co., Virginia.5 Mary Marie Porterfield died on September 6, 2020 at Lynchburg, Virginia, at age 85.3,4
