Zilhaver, 85, of Seminole, Fla., died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, in her home surrounded by her children. Born July 16, 1928, in Lincoln Place, she was the daughter of Robert and Helen Shoemaker Adamson. On June 9, 1951, she married Franklin P. Zilhaver. He preceded her in death July 29, 1995. Ruth retired from the Clarion Area School District after over 20 years of service as an elementary art teacher in Clarion County. She was baptized Aug. 7, 1932, and confirmed April 13, 1941, as a member of the Clarion First United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School in 1941, where she was a basketball manager, yearbook staff member and a seamstress for the drama and music department. Ruth graduated with a degree in art education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1951. She loved to travel with her friends and family across the United States and around the world from Afghanistan to Yugoslavia. She helped sew thousands of bears for cancer patients through the Sojourn Bear Organization. Ruth was a member of the Clarion County Civic Club, Clarion County Art Association, the Women's Club of Seminole Gardens, Friends of Seminole Library and the P. Buckley Moss Society. She was a lifetime member of the PSEA and NEA. Ruth served as an officer of her condo association for many years. Ruth is survived by two children, Karen J. Zilhaver of Clearwater, Fla., and Robert F. Zilhaver and his wife Amanda of DuBois; and five grandchildren: J. Robert Sutton, Laura Hubbard, Sara N. Zilhaver, Polly J. Zilhaver and Robert F. Zilhaver Jr. She was preceded in death by her sister, Martha G. Adamson. Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug.13, 2013, at the Seminole Garden Clubhouse, Seminole, Fla., by Rev. Robert F. Zilhaver and at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at Clarion First United Methodist Church, Clarion, by the Rev. Dr. Deryl K. Larsen. Burial will be at Clarion Cemetery, Clarion. on August 14, 2013.1

He was born November 12, 1896, in Beaver Township, Jefferson County, son of Maurice Louraine and Laura Yount Smith, and was married to Sara Shillips in 1936 at Titusville. A farmer all of his life, Mr. Smith was a director of Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company; was a member of the Clarion County Holstein Association; was named Master Farmer; a past director of the DCSA, and a member of the Senior Citizens of Summerville. He attended the Zion Lutheran Church at Shannondale. He is survived by his wife; a son, Loward Louraine Smith II, of R.D.I, Mayport; a daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Maxine) Himes, of Fairmont City; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and three brothers, Fred M. Smith, R.D.I, Mayport; Charles Smith, R.D.3, Brookville; and Kenneth P. Smith, R.D.I, Mayport. Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, at the Charles D. Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn, the Rev. James Cable officiating. Interment was in the family plot in the Smith Cemetery, Beaver Township, Clarion County. on March 10, 1977.4

He was married August 26, 1937, to the former Florence Phillip, who survives. Mr. Kifer, a florist owned and operated the Phillips-Kifer Flower business in Clarion for 35 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, F&AM Lodge, American Legion Post 66 and the Moose Lodge in Clarion, Coudersport Consistory and Zem Zem Shrine. He served with the U. S. Army in World War II. In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son James H. of Clarion; one daughter, Mrs. Cherie K. Elder of Phoenix, Ariz; four grandchildren, Debra McCall and James Kifer of Clarion and Scott Elder and Melissa Elder of Phoenix and two brothers, Everette E. Kifer and Meade R. Kifer both of Clarion. Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday (today) from the Gerald L. Goble Funeral Home in Clarion with the Rev. W. LeRoy Jones officiating. Burial was in Clarion Cemetery. on May 25, 1982.5
