He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley; children, Barbara Ann (Terry) McNew, Rodney A. Powers, James L. (Pamela) Powers, Brenda S. (Gary) Plant, and Brian K. (Janet) Powers; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Miller, Benjamin (Carol) Powers, Jack (Jennie) Powers, Audrea (Jerry) Vuich, Virginia (James) Bael, and Fredrick (Mary) Powers. Preceded in death by his great-grandson, Zachary Plant; sisters, Betty (Robert) Waters and Barbara (Neal) Polston. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Joseph was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from the rail road with 42 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and helping others, especially his time spent working at Harvest Church. Joseph loved sitting in his screened "Million Dollar" porch and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.3 He was buried at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Schererville, Lake Co., Indiana.3 He was born on January 3, 1935.3 He married Shirley J. Huddlestun, daughter of Halley Fern Huddlestun and Gladys Martin, on November 5, 1956 at Indiana.1,2 Joseph R. Powers died on April 12, 2021 at Indiana at age 86.3
