M, b. September 28, 1949, d. February 4, 2022
Daniel Joseph Benjamin On Friday, February 4, Daniel Joseph Benjamin, peacefully passed away at the age of 72. One of five children, Dan was born on September 28, 1949, in Indianapolis, IN to Raymond and Inez (Doyle) Benjamin. He attended Holy Spirit Catholic School and graduated in 1967 from Scecina Memorial High School in Indianapolis, IN. Dan is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served honorably in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Sergeant. On January 14, 1978, Dan married Alice Anne Via. He became the bonus dad to Michael R Kriech and raised him like his own. Dan spent the majority of his career working alongside Alice at the Jeffersonian Apartments on the Eastside of Indianapolis. The two of them WERE the Jeffersonian. They didn’t just manage and take care of the apartments; they were friends to everyone who lived there. They loved to go to lunch with their friends and family. Dan was a regular at the Shi-Kay Lounge where again, he spent time with his friends and family for some beers, stories, and laughs. Dan had a passion for music and loved playing music with his friends. He also loved being in nature especially fishing with friends and watching old classic movies. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and shared that interest with those he loved by giving coins as gifts. Dan could figure out how to fix anything but what he truly loved was building model airplanes. He had a room full of his airplanes! He and Alice hosted many Sunday afternoon gatherings for friends and family with good music, card games, and good food. He and Alice enjoyed traveling not only in the United States but also cruising to different countries with Dan’s sisters and friends. While Dan was a bit of a homebody, he truly enjoyed and loved his friends who would stop by to hang out with him, meet for lunch or just walk with him on the Pennsy Trail. As his family, we are truly grateful for these friends who continued to love and support Dan. Dan will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our hearts are broken and yet full at the same time as we know he has been reunited with his love Alice, once again playing music with friends and playing with his granddaughter. Dan is survived by his son, Mike (Carrie) Kriech, grandsons Braden Hammond and Owen Kriech, his siblings Kenny, Becky (Don) Weiler, Chris (Don) May, and Beth (Ellen) Benjamin along with many nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Inez, his wife, Alice, his granddaughter, Kylee Ann.
