Guy Eddie Beatty Jr.1,2,3

M, b. February 20, 1933, d. October 4, 2013
Guy Eddie Beatty Jr. Real estate developer, entrepreneur, and one of the nation's leading philanthropists, Guy E. Beatty, Jr., passed away Friday, October 4th, at lnova Fairfax Hospital. He leaves behind his very best friend and devoted wife of 61 years, Betty, his son John and daughter Susi. He also leaves a daughter-in- law, Deborah Sue, 9 grandchildren, 2 grand-dogs, and 8 great-grandchildren. It is very difficult to find the words to talk about a man who has meant so much to so many. Guy Beatty devoted his life's work to helping others. "Take some, leave some," was one of his favorite sayings, but this man left a legacy that far exceeds any amount of recognition he garnered or wanted. After he began his real estate empire in 1962, with $2000 in his bank account, it didn't take him long to grow his business as he bought, sold, and established partnerships with those who could help him realize his professional goals...and those goals were accomplished beyond his and "Betts" wildest imaginations. It's difficult to imagine how much one life, one man, could affect so many; even more difficult to put into words. There are people in this world Guy Beatty has helped that even his own family isn't aware he assisted. Guy had the innate ability to look at a business opportunity and make it successful. As he grew older, one of his favorite sayings was, "This is God's money, not mine...I've been put in the position to help others and give them an opportunity they may not have otherwise had." He was successful in life because he did what he loved - he took on challenges very few would have taken, turned them into successful ventures, and then handed them over to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Guy Beatty made the world a better place, and has left his mark in such a vast amount of areas, there are far too many to share here.2 He was born on February 20, 1933 at Lynchburg, Virginia.3 He married Betty Lillian Simmons, daughter of Sidney Raymond Simmons and Ocie Lee Hall, circa 1952.4,2 Guy Eddie Beatty Jr. died on October 4, 2013 at Woodburn, Fairfax Co., Virginia, at age 80.2,5

Ralph Lee Ramsey Ralph L. Bradley, 74, of Scottsville, VA, formerly of Alexandria, VA, died on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at UVA Medical Center. Born April 18, 1942 in Arlington, VA, he was the son of Frankie Simmons and Burton Ramsey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Stacey Bradley, and son, Ralph Bradley Jr. Ralph proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a member of the U.S. Joint Services Color Guard of Washington, DC and later as a boatswain's mate on an escort ship for the destroyer USS Basilone, which joined the quarantine of Cuba that finally forced the removal of the Russian nuclear missiles from the island. Entrepreneurship, innovation, and success have been the hallmarks of Ralph’s career in the energy industry. His career spanned the exploration, production, energy marketing, power generation and HVAC industries. As co-founder and CEO of H&B Products, Ralph successfully steered the company to prominence in the highly competitive HVAC industry. In 1980, Ralph sold H&B and founded the Eastern Group, a natural gas exploration company. Under his leadership, the company prospered during one of the most volatile eras in energy history. By 1995 the Eastern Group was among the largest natural gas producers in the Appalachian Basin attracting the attention of Statoil, the national oil company of Norway, and resulted in the acquisition of the company in 1997. Ralph stepped down as CEO, joined Statoil’s board of directors, and founded Bradley Energy U.S.A. to focus his vision on deregulation and private enterprise opportunities. Ralph had great passion for many things in his life including restoring classic cars and hot rods, captaining his boat through coastal waterways, ski trips, and fine wines. He turned these passions into great adventures, made all the more enjoyable when shared with family and friends. He shared his many talents by serving on multiple professional and charitable boards including the Alexandria Hospital Foundation, the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, and North Coast Energy. He received many awards and accolades including being a finalist in the 1996 ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ award for Greater Washington, and also was a graduate of Harvard Business School’s OPM program. He was always willing to lend a hand and will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
