Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her son Dan, and sister Sandra. She is survived by her daughter Diane, son-in-law Stephen, and sister Linda. Nancy was born in Norfolk, VA, on March 11, 1938, the first child of G. Carl and Pauline Mast. Due to her father's career in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, Nancy and the family lived and traveled throughout the contiguous United States. After graduating from the University of Kansas (a proud Sigma Kappa sorority sister), she began a career in music. After playing in the Norfolk Symphony and the Charleston Symphony, Nancy used her Music Education degree and became Montgomery County Public Schools' newest elementary music teacher. She retired 20 and one-half years later, most notably from Candlewood Elementary School. Unsurprisingly she was a lifelong fan of music, musicals, and the performing arts, listening to music until the very end. Nancy loved to travel and frequently visited her family throughout the United States. It is poignant to lose her at this time of year as she loved to go to Skyline Drive each fall to see the leaves turn. Nancy was a 30-year resident of Silver Spring MD, and previously a 22-year resident of Kensington MD. Throughout this time she was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church Kensington, in the early years helping the church to adapt the facility for disabled parishioners. She made lifelong friends at the church who joined her in travel, going to shows, enjoying meals, and laughing. Nancy will be remembered for her goodness and kindness as well as being steadfast in her faith. When we reminisce about Nancy, we will say we knew someone who loved her job, her family, and who imparted her knowledge and love of music to thousands of children. We will remember a fighter, and someone who overcame all of life's challenges to lead a happy and full life. We will treasure that legacy. A celebration of her life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 4001 Franklin St, Kensington. She will be interred after the service in the church's memorial garden wall. on October 26, 2021.4
