He passed away August 13, 2013, at the age of 89. Paul loved his family. He is survived by his cherished wife of 67 years, Ernestine Humphreys; his loving daughter, Sandra Paulette Deel and her husband, the Rev. Clarence Deel; his eldest son, William Earl Dodd and his wife, Shawn; and youngest son, Stephen Paul Dodd and wife, Brenda; his beloved grandchildren, Crystal L. Deel Fox, Dr. John T. Deel, BJ "William" Deel, Angela K. Dodd Harless, Stephanie L. Dodd, Stephen P. Dodd II and Virginia A. Dodd Trujillo. He is survived by many lovely and wonderful great-grandchildren (25 in all) and one great-great-granddaughter. He loved his great-grandkids very much. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William Evert Dodd and Darlie Helmick, and also by his grandson, William Evert Dodd II, "Billy," who was taken too early from this loving family. He attended Walton School until 8th grade. He went on to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering while working at Carbide. He had a fruitful career as a pipe fitter for 43 years. Paul was born in Long Ridge, Roane County. His early years were spent there. He went to live with his brother, Roy, in St. Albans at 14 after the death of his father. His mother died when he was only 3 years old. His brother was Hubert and his sister was Imogene Spencer. He also had half-brothers and sisters, Roy, Opal, Thelma, Mary and Basil. All have passed before him. He always made time for his hobbies, which included church activities, revivals, singings and visiting many churches, including Sunlight, Cold-Springs and Jordan Mound. He loved hunting, especially raccoons and squirrel. He was an accomplished boxer in school. He enjoyed beating people at horseshoes all the time. Paul loved to give back to the community. He lovingly donated to Lucy Wilson Baptist Church and many many private organizations, and also many friends and strangers. Paul spent his life always willing to help his friends and neighbors and he continued this tradition after death by donating his body to the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Service will be held at Lucy Wilson Baptist Church, a nice little country church, where he was the senior deacon, Sunday school teacher and elder in the church for many years. He was a member there for 63 joyful, fulfilling years. A celebration of his life and service will be Sunday, August 18, at 2:30 p.m. with Rodney Good and Clarence Deel. Again, service at 2:30 p.m. on August 18, three miles up Wills Creek Road at Lucy Wilson Church.
