When Cheasapeake & Ohio passenger train number 5, west bound, struck a bad rail near Dixon, seven miles east of Roncerverte shortly before 11 o'clock last night, two were killed and two were slightly injured in the derailment which followed. R. D. Womack, of Hinton, and C. H. Gurley, postal clerk, of Staunton, Va. are the dead and their bodies were removed to Clifton Forge today. The two injured men, a postal clerk and a passenger, were rushed to a hospital at Clifton Forge, but it was reported today their injuries were not serious. When the engine struck the de-fective rail, it turned over on it's side across the track, the postal car and combination coach were also derailed and upset and two day coaches were derailed but did not overturn. The sleepers remained on the rails and were later hauled back to a switch and routed over different track and arrived in Charleston after about four hours delay. All the passengers were badly shaken up and the members of the train crew in the baggage car and the engine had narrow escapes from serious injuries if not death. C. D.(sic) Poteet, fireman, who was in the cab with the unfortunate engineer, escaped uninjured. on October 7, 1920.5 He died on May 12, 1941 at age 60.4
