With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to Jeffrey Boyd Sowell, who passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the age of 69 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his daughters, Samantha Johannes (Kyle), and Sabrina Sowell; his sister, Joanie Dixon (Dean); and numerous cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy M. Sowell, and father, J.D. (Sam) Sowell. Born in Madison, Tennessee, graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1976 with a degree in mass communications. He achieved great success in leadership roles at various companies, including the Tennessean (1977-1983); Shoney's Inc. (1983-1994); Holliday Promos and The Sowell Group (1994-2008); Sommet Group (2008-2010); and The SGS (2010-2023). Jeff's passion for antiques began in his childhood–watching his father build and refinish furnishings in his workshop. Over time, Jeff learned to cherish the hunt for the most unusual and unique pieces. He established a home in Franklin, Tennessee, where he helped raise his two daughters, taking great pride in their accomplishments.      George W. Lipford was born circa 1829 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.¹ He Enlisted as a Private in the Civil War. Served in Captain Motley's Company, Virginia Light Artillery, the Pittsylvania Artillery, and the Ringgold Artillery. George appeared on the Register of the Soldier's Home Hospital in Richmond, Virginia on August 18, 1862. Discharged from the service on August 29, 1862, possibly a medical discharge.

     Harry Wade Doss Jr. was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, 107 Cemetery Street, Martinsville, Virginia.² He was born on June 16, 1921 at Martinsville, Virginia.^2,3 He married Wilma Iris Hardison, daughter of Durham Lloyd Hardison and Selma Iris Yeatts, on April 7, 1950 at Patrick Co., Virginia.^1,2 Harry Wade Doss Jr. died on January 6, 2013 at Eden, Rockingham Co., North Carolina, at age 91.² He Harry Wade Doss Jr., 91, of Martinsville, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Morehead Hospital in Eden, N.C. He was born June 16, 1921, in Martinsville, to Josephine Elliott Doss Washburn and Harry Wade Doss Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Humphrey. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Doss retired from Virginia/Carolina Trucking Company and was previously employed with Dalton Thomas Texaco. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Wilma Iris Hardison Doss of the home; three daughters, Wanda D. Slaughter, Pamela D. Nuckles and Susan Doss, all of Martinsville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville with Pastor Tom Durrance officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home. on January 7, 2013.^2,3

     Belva Marshall "Beb" Austin was buried at Yeatts Family Cemetery, on a hill in a pasture, near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mayberry, Patrick Co., Virginia.^3,5 He Mr. Belva Marshall Austin, 91, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Friday December 1, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. Mr. Austin was a member of Mayberry Presbyterian Church and was retired from the Corps of Engineers at Philpot and was also a painter. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis Austin; a son Carroll Austin; and a grandson, Victor Marshall. Surviving are a daughter Roberta Hodges of Meadows of Dan; two grandchildren, Barbara Austin and Linford and Shelia Marshall and one sister, Exie Samuels of Danville, Va.
