Born March 6, 1930, in Mabscott, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Walton and Alma Meadows Riffe. He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, Daniel Riffe and wife Sandie of Trinity, Fla., and David Riffe of New Stanton, Pa; two step-daughters, Tami Wyant and husband Jerry of Mayer, Ariz., and Angela Hitt of Flowood, Miss. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Smith and three brothers, Charles Walton Riffe Jr., Carl Riffe and Gene Riffe. Other survivors include four grandchildren: Alana, Danny, Donnie and Maya; six brothers and seven sisters: Ruth Astle of Beckley, Rosanna Looney, Bill, Howard, Vivian, Robert, Butch, and Becky Riffe, all of Crab Orchard, Mary Ellifritt of Gainesville, Fla., Jan of Dawson, Orpha Loretta Lilly of Columbia, S.C., Don of Roswell, Ga., and Rachel Patton of Westerville, Ohio. Ray was a graduate of VPI (Virginia Tech) with a B.S. and an M.S. in engineering. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1954 to December 1955. After a long career with Westinghouse, he worked as a consultant for several firms, and retired from Americold Corp. He resided with his wife, Jean, at Grandview. He was a member of Northgate Southern Baptist Church in Beckley. He was a member of MENSA and Intertel. Friends may call at Calfee Funeral Home in Beckley, on Wednesday, May 16, at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Craig Stevens officiating, an eulogy will be delivered by Rev. Mark Iobst. Interment will follow at the Calfee Cemetery at Mt. Tabor. Ed Rucker, Dale Wooten, Bruce Meadows, Isaac Mills, James Watkins and Rick Smith will serve as pallbearers. on May 15, 2012.3

     Jack Donald Riffe Jack Donald Riffe, 73, of Petersburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 11, 2008, with his family by his side. Jack was born in Crab Orchard, West Virginia, the son of the late Cecil Owen Riffe and Mary Evelyn Riffe. He served in the U.S. Air Force for five years, stationed at Chelveston Air Force Base in England, where he met his lovely wife of 50 years, Anne. Jack worked at Fort Lee in the photo lab and DOIM Department for 40 years, before retiring in 2003. He was a loving husband, father, friend, and to his grandchildren, he was their "Big Daddy". Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Riffe; sister, Wanda Grant; and brothers, Tommy and Owen Riffe. He is survived by his wife, Anne Riffe; daughter, Debra Riffe and Victor Lavimodiere; son, Alan Riffe and his wife, Beth; granddaughters, Kacy Hitchcock and Katie Riffe; brother, Teddy Riffe; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Monday, December 15, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the funeral home. He is the son of the late Cecil Owen Riffe. Sr. and Mary Evelyn [Elliott] Riffe. He was born March 10, 1940 in Crab Orchard, West Virginia. He was a 1958 Graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, West Virginia. He attended West Virginia University from 1958 to 1959 and the University of Oregon in Eugene from 1961 to 1967, completing his five-year bachelor of architecture degree. He started spending his summers in Alaska in 1962, and in 1967, after graduating from college he became a full time resident. During his life in Alaska, he lived in Hooper Bay, McGrath, Fairbanks, Hope, Girdwood, Kotzebue and Anchorage. He worked for the U. S. Forest Service from 1959 to 1961 and the Bureau of Land Management from 1962 to 1969. From 1972 to 1992 he owned the firm of Riffe and Associates. He worked as the city administrator for Hooper Bay from 1980 to 1983 and 1994 to 1995. He worked for the AVP Regional Housing Authority from 1998 to 2000. He was owner and principal manager of World Planning, Design and Management from 2000 to 2007. He served as a school board member at Iditarod and Lower Yukon School District. He enjoyed painting, carving, sculpture, reading, traveling and hiking. "He was a great man and a caring father and grand-father," his family wrote. He accomplished a lot for the Native communities. He designed and built many buildings throughout Alaska. He dedicated his life to his children. He lived by the words his father told him, which were 'honesty, sincerity and the will to do good.' He would never turn his back on anyone who needed help. He was very much loved and respected by all. Survivors, his children, Auna Riffe, Cecil Owen Riffe III, and Evelyn Riffe; his former wife, Dorothy Riffe; brothers, Jack and Teddy Riffe; and four grand-children. He has many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Virginia and West Virginia. on February 15, 2008.3

E. Wills, 91, of Arnett died at 5 a.m. Saturday in his residence following an extended illness. Born at Arnett, Sept. 24, 1886, the son of the late Joseph E. and Mary Cole Wills, he was lifelong resident of Raleigh County. Best known as a former deputy assessor of Raleigh County, he was a retired school teacher and farmer. He was a member of tbe Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Milam Wills; one son, Joe Ed Wills, Arnett; five daughters, Mrs. Ulla Sawyer, Glen Daniel; Mrs. Jesse Pettry, Mrs. Sylvia Tabor, Mrs. Nellie Snodgrass, and Miss Edna Wills, all of Arnett; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Cook and Mrs. Edna Drennen, Belle. The body will remain at the Calfee Funeral Home until noon today, when it will be moved to the residence at Arnett. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Arnett Chapel with the Rev. Wade Webb and the Rev. Virgil Cook in charge. Burial will be in the Wills Cemetery at Arnett. Pallbearers will be Arthur Milam, Omar Acord, Dawson Lucas, Aden Webb, Arthur Sarrett, Thomas Lafferty, Larry Todd, and Marvin Clay. on January 1, 1961.8

Wills, and two sisters, Daisy Wills, and Emmer Drennen Wills, all of Arnett; 35 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren. The body will be removed from the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home to the residence at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the residence with the Rev. Virgil Cook, Blue Jay, officiating. Burial will be made in the Wills family cemetery, Arnett. on November 28, 1955.5 She died on November 28, 1955 at Arnett, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 86.4,5

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Eulla) Sawyers of Glen Daniel, Mrs. Golden (Jessie) Petrie, Mrs. Garrett (Sylvia) Tabor, Mrs. Jessie (Nell) Snodgrass and Miss Edna Wills, all of Arnett; one son, Joe E. Wills of Arnett; one sister, Mrs. Quince (Ella) Jones of St. Albans; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The body will remain at the Calfee Funeral Home until 2 p.m. Tuesday, when it will be removed to the residence at Arnett. Funeral services will be conducted at the Arnett Community Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Wade Webb and the Rev. Robert Davis. Burial will follow at the Wills family cemetery at Arnett. on March 15, 1965.4

Wills of Arnett, and 10 grandchildren. The body will be taken from the Calfee Funeral Home to the residence at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Arnett Chapel with the Revs. Wade Webb and Sam Meadows in charge. Burial will be in the family cemetery at Arnett. The body will be taken to the church an hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Arthur Wills, Larry Pettry, Mike Pettry, Gary Tabor, Joey Wills and Gratton Daniel. on November 27, 1972.5

She retired as a cook from Mount View Elementary School. Mrs. Tabor was a Christian and member of Naoma Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was blessed and loved by five generations of grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Garrett A. Tabor; a special granddaughter Becky Cowley Plantz; four sisters, Estelle Wills, Ulla Sawyers, Nell Snodgrass and Jess Pettry; three brothers, John, Ernest and Joseph E. Wills. She is survived by one son Garry Dale Tabor and his wife, Bonnie, of Arnett; four daughters; Ardeth Vaughan, Ann Daniel, Mrs. Carl (Phyllis) Bawgus all of Naoma, Mrs. Richard (Sue) Cowley of Whitesville; one sister, Edna Wills of Arnett; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren. Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church on Saxon Road with Rev. Ron Acord and Rev. Harold Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the Tabor family cemetery at Saxon. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at her residence, 144 Long Branch Road, Arnett. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.
