Poff, 85, of Vinton, went to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, April 13, 2008. She was a life member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church and was retired from the Eli Lilly Inc. with 25 years of service. She was known as a people person making many friends in life, with her sunny personality. She was a volunteer with the Lady Auxiliary of the Hardy Fire Department and the Hardy Rescue Squad. She is survived by her husband of 67+ years, John Edgar Poff; six daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Peters, of Vinton, Darlene and Barney McGuire, of Moneta, Helen and Reedy Beard, of Thomasville N.C., Faye and Bill Rutledge, of Vinton, Judy and Barry Smith, of Vinton, and Elaine and Larry Isom, of Daleville, 18 grandchildren; 27 greatgrandchildren; and three greatgreat-grandchildren. She was always faithful to send out her children and grandchildren birthday cards and wishes of love, a loving ministry for her. The family is looking toward reuniting with her in Heaven. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice and other care givers who helped in her time of illness. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. on April 15, 2008.3

Michael Dean Peters Michael Dean Peters, 54, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006. He was born September 8, 1951 the son of the late Shirlie L. Peters. His brother, Lance Corporal Tony Peters preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Peters of Vinton; two sons, Stacey Peters and wife, Aleshia of Vinton, Michael D. Peters and fiancee, Lalenya Braford of Roanoke; stepchildren, Sherry Nunley and husband, Rodney of Goodview, Carl Patsell of Vinton, Tammy Terry and husband, Ricky of Vinton; mother, Goldie B. Thomas; and stepfather, William Thomas of Moneta; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Rodney Peters and wife, Teresa of Stewartsville, Steven Peters and wife, Vergie of Roanoke; two sisters, Susan Napier and husband, William of Vinton, Lisa Sullivan of Salem; two nephews and two nieces. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Military Funeral Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Barry Allen Smith Barry Allen Smith, 78, of Vinton, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. He was born on March 14, 1948. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Rader Smith; his parents, Fred and Alvie Smith; and his brothers, Ashford Smith, Alfred Smith, Harold Smith, and Sheridian Smith. Barry attended Staunton River High School, where he graduated. He went on to service in the United States Air Force for 12 years. Later, he went to work as a maintenance technician for General Electric. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting pocket watches, tending to his bees, and attending NASCAR races. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Judith Smith; his sons, Barry Edward Smith and Thomas Allen Smith (Melissa); his daughter, Lawanna Marie Freeman; his stepchildren, Karen Beard and David Beard (Penny), Joseph Beard and Shelly Beard; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill Smith (Judy) and Russell Smith (Vickie); his sister, Gloria Couts; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Lewis Gale Hospital for their compassionate care. They would also like to thank Bedford County Fire and Rescue, specifically Jack Arrington and Emily Pratt.5 He was born on March 14, 1948 at Roanoke, Virginia.4,5 He married Judith Charlene "Judy" Poff, daughter of John Edgar Poff and Thelma Colleen Bush, on April 19, 2003 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,3 Barry Allen Smith died on April 22, 2026 at Virginia at age 78.5
