His devotion to his family as well as his deep faith in Jesus Christ allowed him to find peace and joy in the midst of his struggle against cancer. Fred was born to Howard and Virginia Emmons, who were both educators, in Roanoke, Va. on September 3, 1949. He graduated from Roanoke College and began his lifelong calling as an educator teaching Civics and World History in Keokee, Va. He selflessly served Page County teaching Spanish at both the high school and community college for over three decades, and has touched the lives of so many within our community. He faithfully attended Stanley United Methodist Church, and loved singing in the choir. Fred was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Deborah Ann Jackson, on November 28, 1981 in Roanoke, Va. Together they proudly raised their two daughters, Emily and Edie. Fred invested deeply in his wife and children, putting family as the most important aspect of his life. He loved taking his family on vacation adventures – never going to the same place twice. Fred was an educator at heart. He loved the arts, and was an accomplished painter. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate his life and the fact that he is now at peace with his creator. Fred is survived by his wife, Debbie; his daughters, Emily and Edie; his grandchildren, Rebekah and Elizabeth; his siblings Annette, Tony, and Timothy; and many nieces and nephews. on August 31, 2016.⁵
