Mr. McCorkle was a member and past president of the Beckley Civitan Club and candy box chairman and past sergeant at arms. He was a life member of B.P.O.E., Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM, Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, Mt. Hope Commandry, member and past chaplain of the Beckley Shrine Club. Mr. McCorkle was a member of the Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy assigned to the 3rd Marine Division during World War II. He also had worked in plumbing for several years. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in the mountains, hunting and bluegrass music. Born Dec. 5, 1936 at Summers County, he was the son of the late Dewey Conner and Ethel Butler Conner Pennington. Dennis worked all his life as a farmer and was a member of the Elmore Union United Methodist Church in Princeton. Survivors: Brothers and sisters, Dewey 'Buster' Conner and wife Shirley of Lenoir, N.C., Holly Conner of Pacoima, Calif., Helen Hartley of Princeton and Linda Collins of Princeton. Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. today from the Butler Family Cemetery at Hilltop with the Rev. Paul Hall officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11 a.m. There will be no visitation.
