She was born July 20, 1935, at Baca County, Colo., the daughter of Marion and Gertrude Hartley Beason. She attended school at Colorado, Texas and Elkhart. She moved to Liberal in 1952 from Perryton, Texas, and worked as a waitress for many years. She began as a fabricator for Beech Aircraft, Liberal, later transferring to Wichita in 1985. In 1997 she retired and returned to Liberal. She belonged to AFL-CIO Union and South Church of God, serving as chairman of the hospitality and historical committees. She also served for many years at Summer Vacation Bible School, the Beech Employee Club, Golden Rule, Golden B and the United Way. On Sept. 11, 1954, she married Elmer F. Harris at Clayton, N.M. He survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Eugene Bolton, Oklahoma City, and Bill Harris, Wichita; two daughters, Patty Volden, Liberal, and Lura Jane Wheat, Wichita; four sisters, Charlene Jones, Fort Worth, Texas, Betty Records, Ottawa, Leona Carlile, Liberal, and Peggy Rodkey, Tulsa, Okla; sixteen grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at South Church of God, Liberal, with the Rev. Rusty Callahan presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Miller Mortuary. Burial will be in Rest-lawn Memorial Gardens, Liberal. On March 28, 1931, she married Leo Hartley at Springfield, Colo. After his death June 30, 1946, she owned and operated a laundry and trailer park for 12 years. She sold her business in 1957 and became the food service manager and cook for Elkhart High School. Mrs. Hartley was elected county clerk of Morton County in 1962 and was re-elected to several terms before retiring in 1974. In 1984, she moved to Decatur, Texas, where she lived until her health began to fail and she moved to Effingham. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Loretta Ann Hartley; a son, Thelbert Leo Hartley; and four brothers, Everett, Marvin, Raymond and Edmond Miles. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Shirley F. Hartley of Deer Park, Texas, and Wayne Hartley of Decatur; two daughters, Marie Norcross of Golden, Colo., and Ethel Jean Bloemker of Effingham; four sisters-in-law; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. on October 3, 2003.³

She received a B.A. degree from William Penn College and a M.A. degree in education from Northeast Missouri State College. She was also a life member of the National Education Association. She retired from teaching in 1986 after teaching for 35 years; the last 23 years being in Ottumwa. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. On June 15, 1941 she married Keith Ward Clark. They became the parents of two children, one son, Leland of Fremont and one daughter, Kathy of Tempe, Ariz. Also surviving are four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanine Klett of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Kenneth Pfannebecker of Sigourney; and several nieces and nephews. As per her wishes, Dorothy has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at The Shrine of Memories Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robert Dean officiating. The ashes will be placed in a niche in the Memorial Lawn Mausoleum. Friends may call at the home of Keith Clark, 252 S. Miles in Fremont on Monday evening from 7-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Wapello and Davis counties, Ottumwa Regional Health Center. on November 25, 2006.²
