Judith Louise "Judy" Sims Judith “Judy” Bennett passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 30, 2019. She was born in Charlotte NC, on November 18, 1942, daughter of Louise Sifford Sims and William Sylvester Sims. Growing up in Charlotte, she loved spending summers at the beach with friends and traveling throughout the US with her parents. She attended Myers Park High School, graduating in 1961. After graduation, she attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA. Judy began her career with R.S. Dickson in Charlotte. Judy met Pete Bennett on December 14, 1963. It was an enchanting evening moment. They were married in November of 1965. They moved to Fayetteville, NC, where she worked with Powell Kistler. It was in Fayetteville that they had their first child, a daughter Lisa. In 1966, they moved to Greensboro, N.C. and Judy became a stay at home Mom. The family moved back to Charlotte in 1969. In 1971, she had a son, Brandt. Now she really had her hands full. She was a very loving, caring and devoted Mom, doing the things that all good Moms do! In 1978, Judy went to work with Dean Witter Reynolds and worked there until 1982. She then joined Interstate Securities (later name changed to The Interstate Group) as an Institutional Equities Trader. She retired from The Interstate Group in April of 2013. She served on the Board of the North Carolina Securities Traders Association and was President in 1989. She was the convention coordinator for the NCSTA Annual Conventions from 1985 until her retirement. In 2013, Judy was diagnosed with MS /PSP. She handled this with the same grace and tenacity as everything else in her life. Judy was a very unique woman. She never met a stranger. People seemed to gravitate to her as she had poise, charm, compassion, and truly loved people. She had a great sense of style, confidence, “Can Do” attitude, plus a beautiful smile and sparkling green eyes. She would literally light up a room. All of these qualities helped her make many friends and lead to a successful career. She had a real zest for life and was a very special person. She always enjoyed spending time with all of her friends laughing and walking down memory lane. She loved traveling, good parties, holiday events filled with family and friends, music and dancing. She felt blessed by the many good friends she had. The most important things in life to Judy were her family's love, happiness and good chardonnay. Judy has been a very caring, loving, supportive mother and wife. She has always been there when her family needed her. She was the real brains and the glue that kept this family close. She was truly Special and much loved and will be dearly missed by her family and all of her many friends. She is survived by the love of her life, James “Pete” Bennett, her husband of 54 years, loving children, Lisa Bennett Kitterman and William Brandt Bennett, daughter-in-law, Anita, grandsons, Robert Bennett Kitterman and Wesley Gray Bennett.
