She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, loved being with her family and was an active member of the Goodwyn's Chapel Church of Christ. Lakie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A coroner's jury, impaneled by Dr. V. A. McClanahan of Aledo found that death was due to a heart attack. The body was discovered in an upright position in a rocking chair by Clyde Blaine, her son-in-law, when he went to the home to deliver a load of coal which Mrs Southern had ordered at 10 a.m., the same day. Mrs. Southern was born Dec. 20, 1867 in Harrisburg. Va., and had been a resident of Mercer county since 1898. She married Mr. Southern Aug. 31, 1897. Her husband preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1927. Four children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Flatt of North Henderson and Mrs. Nina Blaine of Viola. She also leaves a daughter by her first marriage, Mrs. Sadie Baker of Viola, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Goldie Andrews of Red Wing, Minn. on February 3, 1938.⁴
