He was born on August 15, 1952, to the late, James H. “Pete” Echols and Virginia Irene Flint Echols. Barry was a hardworking, talented, honest, and simple man. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Tabatha Sue Echols. Barry is survived by his daughter, Connie Michelle Echols; stepdaughters, Vicky Abbott and Anita McGuire; former wife, Wanda Echols; three grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Renee Baldwin and husband, Richard, Pat Morrison and husband, Philip; nieces and nephews, Greg Baldwin, Kevin Baldwin, Traci Rose and Husband, Mike, Sandy Sage and husband, Aaron, Chris Morrison and wife, Tracey, Michael Morrison and wife, Lindsey; and other extended family members; and special friends, Bob Hale, Tom Brewer, and Richard Huffman.⁵

He was also a manager and senior sales agent at Americar and Avis Rent a Car. At the time of his death he was owner of Dominion Maids LLC in Fairfax, VA. John was an accomplished guitar player, singer and songwriter. He was president of Webco Records of Virginia, Acoustigrass Music Publishing and Acoustigrass Entertainment LTD where he was the manager and booking agent for several internationally acclaimed bands. He was active in local youth sports coaching soccer and basketball. John possessed tremendous wit, determination and a strong work ethic, conducting his personal and business affairs with integrity, honor, and loyalty. John is survived by his son, Darien John Emerson; parents, Bill and Lola Emerson; brothers, Mike Emerson (Sherry) and Billy Emerson (Lisa); nieces, Kerri Mohr (Sean), Kristin, Amanda, and Haley Emerson; nephews, Michael Jr. and William Emerson IV; as well as uncles, cousins, friends and employees. on April 17, 2013.⁴

     Garner Roosevelt Jarrell Sr. Mr. Garner Roosevelt Jarrell, Sr., age 91 of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday morning, March 24, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Jarrell was born on February 26, 1933, in Surry County to the late Ellard Grady and Mary Vernon Jarrell. Garner proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served for over 30 years. Garner was a member of Renfro Masonic Lodge # 691 AF&AM, where he continued serving his community and the orphanage. He was a well-known cattle farmer and was always willing to serve. Garner was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Linda D. Jarrell; a daughter, Mary Ellen Jarrell Bowman; a son and daughter-in-law, Garner “Nick” Roosevelt Jarrell, Jr. and Debbie; stepson, Robert Marion; six grandchildren, Josh Galyean and Marla, Amy Jarrell Faile and Craig, Scott Jarrell and Shawna, Patrick Jarrell and Marlana, Kip Galyean and Sally, Montana Galyean; fifteen great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jarrell was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Jarrell Schuyler, Vera Jarrell Park, Julie Jarrell Jones, Becky Jarrell Swift; and four brothers, Ellis Jarrell, Daniel Jarrell, Ellard Vernon “Tom” Jarrell, and Allen Jarrell. A funeral service will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Airy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors conducted by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain as well as Masonic Rites conducted by Renfro Lodge #691 AF&AM.³ He was buried at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Mount Airy, Surry Co., North Carolina.³ He was born on February 26, 1933 at Mount Airy, Surry Co., North Carolina.^3,4 He married Linda Darnell Flint, daughter of James Colonel "Jim" Flint and Mary Ann Sarver, on December 29, 1991 at Mount Airy, Surry Co., North Carolina.^1,2 Garner Roosevelt Jarrell Sr. died on March 24, 2024 at Dobson, Surry Co., North Carolina, at age 91.³
