     Tarleton Rives Andes Tarleton Rives Andes, 95, of 300 Kings Way Road, Martinsville died Thursday Aug. 20, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Martinsville on Aug. 26, 1913 to George M. Andes and Mattie Brown Andes. He was a graduate of Martinsville High School and Fork Union Military Academy. He served in the Army during WWII as a combat engineer in New Guinea and the Philippines. Tarleton retired after 36 years with DuPont as a photographer. He was a member of the Martinsville Exchange Club, a 32nd-degree Mason and a charter member of Calvary Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as the men's Sunday School teacher and Elder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn West Andes, and second wife, Alta Haley Andes, one daughter, Elizabeth Rives Andes, three sisters, Martha Morgan, Lucile A. Weaver and Hannah Andes, four brothers, Billy, Milton, John Spotswood, Frederick Andes and two stepsons. He is survived by a son, Walter Rives Andes of Richmond, a daughter, Mary Tarleton Coleman of Virginia Beach, a sister, Mary Spotswood Davis of Hickory, NC, four stepsons, two stepdaughters, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.4 He was born on August 26, 1913 at Martinsville, Virginia.2,4 He married Kathryn Elizabeth "Kitty" West, daughter of Walter Raleigh West and Cammie Tazwell Price, on August 19, 1939 at Danville, Virginia.1,4 Tarleton Rives Andes died on August 20, 2009 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 95.3,4
