She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Hubert Saunders; and precious granddaughter, Jennifer Miles. Cornelia was a longtime member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church and loved her family and church family dearly. Cornelia is survived by daughters, Vickie Gordon and husband, Terry, and Libbye Taylor and husband, Mike. She is also survived by granddaughters, Christine Carroll and husband, Aaron, Melissa Welch, and grandson, Matt Miles. Great-grandchildren left to cherish her memory are Allie Carroll, Emily Carroll, Dylan Miles, Meghan Carroll, Jade Welch, Chase Miles, Darcy Welch, Laney Welch, and Lily Carroll as well as a host of nieces and nephews. on March 28, 2020.7

Our beloved patriot, retired 1st Sergeant Riley Lee Turpin of Roanoke, Va., left this earthly world joining his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the age of 80. Riley was a benevolent man who loved fiercely and gave generously to his family and loved God and country. He was kind, loving, and an honest man. He enjoyed exercising, running miles every day. He often woke up early to go to the YMCA to work out at 5 a.m. and even went on his lunch time and again later the same day. He loved the Lord and was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church for many years. A true American Hero, he culminated over 40 years of active duty in our nation's military—the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and merchant Marine Corps. Riley was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on May 5, 1941, to the late Lewis William (Ben) Turpin and Frances Boulding Turpin. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Edd O. Hale Jr., and Lucille F. Hale. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Brenda Hale Turpin; brother, Edward W. Turpin and his family, David E. Turpin (Kristin) and LeEtta Turpin and her husband, Father James Detrich; his in-laws, Donald E. Hale (Gloria), Donald Dwayne Hale; Chandler Hale; Cindy Turner (Craig); and Caleb and Jacob Shockley. The family would like to give a special thank you to the many people who helped Brenda during this difficult time, especially Ray and Joyce Sarver, Charlie and Cheryl Turner, Dr. Chad DeMott and his staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion they gave to Riley; and to the many neighbors and friends for the thoughtful prayers who raised Riley up each day to his Lord. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton with Full Military Honors. on March 6, 2022.4

He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence Albert McCoy; brother, Lawrence McCoy Jr. (Butch); and grandmother, Ruby Wells. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School and Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy and was a Master Deputy for the Roanoke City Sheriff's Department for 16 years. He was an avid weightlifter and holds numerous weightlifting records in Virginia. Tim is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Jeannie) McCoy; mother, Shirley Wells McCoy; stepdaughter, Taylor Leginus and fiancé, Dylan Smith; stepson, Kaleb Leginus, and numerous other family including his brotherhood of law enforcement and family of weightlifters. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. William Fintel and the amazing staff and friends at Lewis-Gale Medical Center 6 West for their wonderful care of Tim. The family also shares their heartfelt appreciation for their law enforcement family, members of Life Church, Roanoke area businesses, and the Roanoke community for their prayers and overwhelming support during these difficult months. on March 23, 2016.3
