     Carol Paige Lawrence Carol "Bett" Long, after a long battle of her life and for life went peacefully to the angels on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Bett was born on April 25, 1954 to Ray and Maxine Lawrence in Roanoke, Va. Bett was a wonderful wife, mother, mema and friend. An excellent cook she would find and prepare new recipes, and then she knew how to improve upon them. Bett was also blessed with two "green thumbs" for flower and vegetables. Our home was always green and alive with plants and the pantry always full with her canned vegetables. Bett was a Christian, always doing right, not wrong and knowing good from bad. Bett also took great pride in her appearance and how she looked, not vain, simply pride her class and dignity. Bett also had a love for animals, if she found a stray they soon found a home as one of her own and Bett would have been fine if she had an animal named for all the characters from Lonsome Dove which was her favorite movie. Bett was preceded in death by her father, Ray Lawrence; brother, Bruce Lawrence and father-in-law, "Doc" Long. Those left to grieve are husband, Geary; daughter, Mary and Richard Shaver of Christiansburg; son, Jonathan "Bear" and Jennifer of Floyd; mother-in-law, Essie Long of Salem; special aunt, Tressie and James Thornton of Floyd; sisters, Tonya and Darrel Hodges of Wirtz, Lorna and Doug Martin of Salem; brother-in-law, Tim Long of Salem; sister-in-law, Nancy Lawrence of Roanoke and many other family members. A very heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, both the NRV and Roanoke offices. An extra thanks to Brenda Hawkes and Todd Tripplett. But a most special thanks to Betts "angels", Katie Gaylor and Ashley McPherson. The care they showed Bett, the respect and dignity and compassion that Bett received was a pleasure to witness. Bett, Momma, Mom, Me-Ma, you will be missed but never forgotten. Cemetery, Rochester, Fulton Co., Indiana.^4,6,12,13 He was born on November 19, 1930 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana.^{5,11,6,7,8,13,14} He married Carol Sue Drudge on February 5, 1950 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana.^4,7 Joseph Dale "Joe" Barts died on May 23, 2001 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana, at age 70.^4,11,6,13,14 He Joseph D. Barts, Nov. 19, 1930 - May 23, 2001. Joseph D. Barts, 70, died at 7:38 p.m. Wednesday at Hickory Creek of Rochester. Born in Rochester to Howard C. and Maude S. Stull Barts, he married Carol Sue Drudge Feb. 5, 1950 at Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester. She survives. Mr. Barts, a lifetime Rochester resident, retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1973 after 13 years, 11 years as a Rochester city carrier. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, lifetime member of Moose Lodge 1107, LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post 36, all of Rochester, and an 11-year Fulton County 4-H leader of the Horse and Pony Club. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Surviving with his wife, at home, are two sons, Dr. David J. Barts, and Monty L. Barts and wife Debbie, all of Rochester; five grandchildren, Gretchen, Landon, Lindsay, Caitlin and Clinton Barts, all of Rochester; two sisters, June Vrana, Rochester, and Alice Sroufe and husband Tom, Macy. Preceding in death were his parents and one brother, Keith, in 1959. Burial is at Rochester IOOF Cemetery, where the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military graveside rites. on May 25, 2001.⁴

     James Vrana was buried at Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester, Fulton Co., Indiana.^4,6 His Social Security Number was 398-12-4588.⁹ He was born on May 24, 1923 at Ladysmith, Rusk Co., Wisconsin.^9,4,6,5,7,8 He married June Lucile Barts, daughter of Howard Clarence Barts and Maude Salome Stull, on May 22, 1954 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana.^1,2,3,4 James Vrana died on June 6, 2000 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana, at age 77.^4,9,6,7 He James Vrana, 77, 2611 S. Southway 31, died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday at his home. The son of James and Ann Dvoriak Vrana, he was born May 24, 1923, at Ladysmith, Wisc. He married June L. Barts on May 22, 1954, in Rochester. She survives. He was raised in Abbottsford, Wisc. He received a bachelor's degree, specializing in dairy services, from the University of Wisconsin in 1948. He moved to Rochester from Illinois in 1949. He was an employee of Chrystal Dairy until it closed in 1962. He then was employed by Del Monte Foods in Plymouth until he retired in 1987 as the plant's quality control manager. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife. June, at home; one daughter, Jill Ervin, with husband Paul, Kettering, Ohio; one son, Jack, with wife Kathy, Angola; four grandchildren, Lauren and Elliot Vrana, Angola, and Noah and Elijah Ervin, Kettering; two sisters, Mae Poulos, Hermitage, Mo., and Irene Kvederis, with husband Phil, also of Hermitage; one brother, Jeny, with wife Nola, Colby, Wisc; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents and a grandson, Collin Vrana, in 1983. Burial will be in Rochester l.O.O.F. Cemetery. on June 7, 2000.⁴

     Thomas Marshall "Tom" Sroufe was buried at Plainview Cemetery, Macy, Miami Co., Indiana.⁵ He Thomas M. Sroufe, 86, Macy, Indiana, passed away at 12:23 A.M. Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at his residence. He was born in the home of his parents, Russel and Georgianna (Jones) Sroufe, on August 29, 1933, near Macy. Tom spent his childhood with two younger siblings: Beth and Mark. In 1951, Tom graduated from Macy High School. In August 1953, Tom joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for 15 months. He was honorably discharged in August 1955. On November 27, 1955, Thomas M. Sroufe and Alice J. Barts were united in marriage at Grace United Methodist Church in Rochester. They moved to a farm southeast of Rochester and lived in the same home during their 64 years of marriage. They were blessed with two sons: Scott Joseph on November 13, 1958, and Eric James on May 24, 1964. Tom was a lifelong member of Macy Christian Church and enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church boat services. In 2015, Tom and Alice continued attending First Baptist Church in Rochester. A life-long farmer, Tom served on the Miami County Fair Board for four years and was elected to the Farmers Home Administration serving Miami, Cass, and Howard counties from 1993 to 1996. Tom farmed with his grandfather Winfield Scott, father Wilson Russel, sons Scott and Eric, and grandsons Matthew and Brock. Five generations of Sroufe men working together. Tom and Alice were dedicated to their grandchildren’s musical programs and athletic events attending many cross-country, football, baseball, basketball, softball, and volleyball games. They also found time to attend Notre Dame women’s basketball games beginning with the Ruth Riley era. In 2001 they traveled with other ND fans to St. Louis to watch the team win its first NCAA national championship. Tom is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice J. Sroufe; sons Scott and wife Karla and Eric and wife Lee Ann. Grandchildren are: Matthew Sroufe and wife Miranda, Brock Sroufe, Andrea and husband Eric Goller, Alanie and husband Matt Hipsher. Also surviving are great-granddaughters Vanessa Lynn Sroufe and Lydia Ann Sroufe, and great-grandsons Luke Matthew Hipsher and Jameson Scott Goller, brother Mark (Joyce) Sroufe and sister, Beth Nicodemus (friend Peter Meyer), several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Carol Sue Barts.Preceding him in death are his parents.      Vada Reffett was buried at Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester, Fulton Co., Indiana.^2,5 She was born on June 12, 1923 at Pyramid, Floyd Co., Kentucky.^2,6,3,4 As of December 22, 1946,her married name was Barts.⁷ She married Howard Keith Barts, son of Howard Clarence Barts and Maude Salome Stull, on December 22, 1946 at Fulton, Fulton Co., Indiana.⁷ Vada Reffett died on May 7, 2010 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana, at age 86.^2,6,4 She Vada Quackenbush, June 12, 1923 – May 27, 2010. Vada Quackenbush, 86, passed away Thursday in Life Care Center of Rochester. Survivors include her sisters, Kelsa (Phil) Carr, Jennie Case, and Lottie Kotterman; brother, Paul Reffett; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Barts in 1968, five brothers and two sisters. on May 31, 2010.⁴

     Charles Keith Barts was buried at Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester, Fulton Co., Indiana.^2,3,4 He was born on August 17, 1957 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana.^2,3 He died on August 2, 1968 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana, at age 10.^2,3 He Charles Keith "Chuck" Barts, 10, 417 West Seventh street, died at 8:30 a.m. today in Woodlawn hospital where he had been admitted several hours earlier. He had been ill three months. He was born Aug. 17, 1957, in Rochester, the son of Mrs. Keith (Vada) Reffett Barts and the late Mr. H. Keith Barts. He was a sixth grader at Riddle school and a member of the Grace United Methodist church. He was the pitcher for the Sox minor league baseball team, a member of Cub Scout pack 3475, and the Youth bowling league association. Surviving with his mother are the maternal grandfather, Whitten Reffett, Langley, Ky; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Maude Barts, of Rochester, and aunts, uncles and cousins. His father preceded him in death in March 1959. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. ccemetery here. on August 2, 1968.²
