She was born December 24, 1918 in Callaway, the daughter of the late Aldine and Pearl Jones. She lived in Danville, Greensboro, N.C., and Richmond before moving to Roanoke. She retired from Thalhimers Department Store in Greensboro, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winifred Howell; daughter, Margie H. Daniel; brothers, Stafford Jones, Ishmael Jones and Rudolph Jones; sisters, Ina J. Messenger and Christine M. Jones. Mrs. Howell was a member of Southall Baptist Church in Danville. She is survived by her granddaughter, Kimberly Daniel, of Fla; son-in-law, Grady Daniel, of Richmond; sisters, Estelle Jones, Geraldine Smith and husband, William, all of Roanoke; many wonderful nieces and nephews that visited her in the nursing home. Funeral services will be conducted from St. Peters Episcopal Church 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. John Heck officiating. Interment will follow in the Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peters Episcopal Church. Her family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount. on August 1, 2012.⁶

Jones, 84, of Callaway, Va., died on Monday, October 27, 2008. Mr. Jones was born on December 23, 1923, (should be Dec 3, 1923) a son of the late Aldine and Pearl Jones. He was a World War II veteran and a retired millwright from Allied Chemical. He also loved golf, music, was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, organized the annual St. Peter's Episcopal School reunions and served as a board member of Phoebe Needles Center in Callaway, Va. She was born on July 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Aldine and Pearl Jones. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Stafford Jones, Rudolph Jones, and Ishmael Jones; and sister, Ina J. Messenger. Miss Jones retired from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. She gave annually to several charities including St. Jude Children's Hospital. Surviving are her sisters, Juanita J. Howell, Estelle Jones, and Geraldine J. Smith and husband, William; also her special great-niece, Kimberly Daniel; several other nieces and nephews; and best friend, Bob DeLuca. Born in Callaway, Va., he grew up in the country learning the important things in life; sweet sunshine for chores in the early mornings and cool evenings for hunting with friends. His character was good, strong and loyal. He had common sense and a right dry wit. He loved his family, his friends and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some of Rudolph's proudest accomplishments include; Boy Scout Leader, member of Franklin County Board of Supervisors, Babe Ruth League Baseball Coach, charter member of "The Board," President of the Employee Council at Dupont (Martinsville Plant), Jury Commissioner in Franklin County, member of the Governor's Council for Youth (Rotary) which became Franklin County Parks and Recreation, charter member and officer of the Callaway Rescue Squad, occasional member of the Blackwater Bluegrass Band, committee member for the Lifelong Learning Center at Phoebe Needles and member of the Gogginsville Methodist Church. He was a person well liked and respected, surrounded by friends, and enjoyed many, many good times.     He is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by his wife, Molly; children, Donna Jones Wells (Tommy), and Phil Jones (Jill); stepson, Kasson Bratton (Olivia); grandsons, Jason Jones (Mackenzie), Drue Gray (Heather), and Justin and Michael Wells; sisters, Ina Messinger (W.D. Sr.), Juanita Howell, Estelle Jones, Christine Jones, and Geraldine Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Wright; and brothers, Ishmael and Stafford. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009, from Flora Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bradley S. Delaney officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, was a U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of Lynchburg College, and was a teacher in the Franklin County School System with 27 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Patricia E. Jones; his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Carroll Owen; his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan E. and Stacey Jones; his sisters and brothers, Ina Messenger, Juanita Howell, Estelle E. Jones, Ishmael and Thelma Jones, Christine Jones, Rudolph and Molly Jones, Geraldine and William Smith; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fletcher Hardy and Rev. Larry Mann officiating.
