Burial will take place in the family cemetery. Mr. Newby, a native of Pittsylvania County, was born September 25, 1870, a son of the late John Watson and Susan Terry Newby of Keeling. Having spent his entire life in the Keeling Community, he enjoyed a widespread friendship. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Estelle Blanche Shelton and the following children: Mrs. H. H. Hardy of Keeling, Mrs. Jesse Brooks of Danville, Alton Newby of Williamsburg, Herman Newby of Keeling, Edward Newby, U.S. Army, and Jones Newby of Keeling. on December 16, 1962.4

Mrs. Newby died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Brooks of 231 Halifax St. after an illness over the past year. She was born and lived most of her life at Keeling and was married to the late Henry Newby. In addition to Mrs. Brooks, she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Theresa Henderson, of Keeling; four sons, Alton, Herman, Edward and Jones Newby, all of Keeling; two brothers, Tupper Shelton of Keeling and Curtis Shelton of Richmond; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. on December 20, 1960.4

Tabor Baptist Church and Kent Lodge of Masons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Phoebe Ray Newby Hoats of Waltenboro, S.C; one brother, Isaac Jones Newby of Keeling; two sisters, Mrs. Theresa Henderson of Keeling and Mrs. Mattie Brooks of Danville; and two grandchildren. The body is at the funeral home and the family is at the residence on Keeling Rt. 1. on March 30, 1972.4

He had been an invalid most of his life and confined to bed for four years. Mr. Newby was a life-long resident of the Keeling community, born Dec. 3, 1906. He was a son of the late Henry Newby and Estell Shelton Newby. Surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Alton Newby, Edward Newby, Jones Newby, Mrs. Theresa Henderson, all of Keeling, and Mrs. Mattie Brooks of Danville. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wrenn-Yeatts Chapel. Interment will be in the family cemetery at Keeling. The body will rest at the funeral home prior to the services and the family will be at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mattie Brooks, 231 Halifax St. on August 2, 1962.5 He died on August 2, 1962 at Danville, Virginia, at age 55.4,5
