Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at Elk Funeral Home, 2001 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston, with the Rev. Rex Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Elk Funeral Home, Charleston, is in charge of arrangements. on November 2, 2003.³

     Mary Ellen Moreau Mary Ellen Beard, July 20, 1920 – October 21, 2018. Beard, Mary Ellen (Moreau) was 98 and born in Fayetteville, West Virginia. She went to be with the Lord on October 21, 2018. She was a resident of Hillsborough County for over 70 years. She is predeceased by her daughter Barbara Ellen Mullins, parents Angie Nettie Boyer Jackson and George Francis Moreau, brother George Jennings Moreau, sisters; Margaret Rose Hitchcock and Susan Tilly Noble. She is survived by her loving husband Malcolm, to whom she was married for over 70 years, son Thomas Beard and wife Joyce, her brother Joe Harrison Moreau and wife Anne, sisters; Norma Jeanne Stewart and husband Milo, Betty Haskell and husband James, and sister-in-law Helen Moreau. She has three grandchildren, Kenneth Beard (Megan), Jacqueline Marshall (Douglas), both of Tampa, Jordan Touchstone of Lake Butler; step grandson, Brian Easley (Lynn) of Auburndale, and step granddaughters Christina Farrier (Jeff) of Palm Harbor and Carrie Rozmeski of Wesley Chapel, as well as ten great grandchildren (Jaylen, Kylie, Myla, Avery, Malcolm, Emma, Adeline, Elize, Alexander and Kanten). She was a graduate of Oak Hill High School, with a post graduate year in business and attended the University of South Florida. Mrs. Beard was a 56-year member of the First Christian Church of Tampa. She was active in the Golden Band Class and in many church circles throughout the church. She was a longtime participant in the Tampa Junior Woman’s Club, the Tampa Woman’s Club, the 39er’s Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was currently a member of Lake Magdalene Methodist Church. Born June 11, 1915, in Fayetteville, be was a son of the late Clarence and Eva Baber Burgess. A retired heavy equipment operator. Burgess was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlene Burns Burgess; two sons, Bill Lee of Oklahoma and Rick Andrew Burgess, at home; one brother, Alton (Penny) Burgess of Renton, Wash; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Legg of Fayetteville and Mrs. Kathryn Woodyard of Charleston, and one grandchild. on June 18, 1977.⁵

A native of Arcadia, he had lived in Tallahassee since 1952. He was a manager and vice president of North Florida Gas Corp. and Amerigas Propane Inc. until his retirement was a life member of the Sons of the American Colonists and Sons of the American Revolution, and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served as a flight instructor until VJ Day, when he was honorably discharged at McCord Field in Tacoma, Wash. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Almeda Mullins Burgess Sinclair of Tallahassee; two sons, Bill Burgess of Witchita, and Robert S. Burgess of Port Aransas, Texas; two sisters, Aleene S. Franz of Chipley and Lila Brouillette of Port St. Joe; a nephew, Dr. K. Sinclair Franz of Marianna; and four grandnephews. on September 21, 1996.²
