     Delores Dee Sterling Delores Dee "Dee Dee" Mahon of Yates Center died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Coffey County Hospital, Burlington. She was 81. She was born Sept. 4, 1931, on her family's farm northeast of Yates Center, the daughter of William Robert and Dorothy (McConnell) Sterling. She spent her early yeas on the farm and attended Maple Grove School. The family then moved nearer to town and she attended Yates Center schools, graduating from Yates Center HIgh School with the class of 1949. On July 17, 1949, she was married to Morris C. Mahon at the Methodist Church, Eureka, KS. They began their family and in 1951 moved to their home on East Madison, where Dee Dee lived for the rest of her life. She loved plants and flowers, birds and most especially, children. She enjoyed all things "bling", including shiny shoes, glitter and patriotic gear, and had a sweet spot for the music of Alan Jackson. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Yates Center. She is survived by her husband, Morris Mahon of Yates Center; a daughter, Gloria Gae Adams and husband Michael of Wichita; a son, Curtis Vance Mahon of Gulf Shores, Ala; three grandchildren, Monica Hale of Wichita, Courtney Mahon of Virginia Beach, Va., and Carson Mahon of Gulf Shores, Ala; four great-grandchildren, Austin and Paige Hale of Wichita and Braiden and Ryan Mahon of Virginia Beach, Va; and other relatives and good friends. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Lenora Lee, Wilma Lind and Norma Hanson. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at Campbell Funeral Home, Yates Center, with burial following in Yates Center Cemetery.
