She enjoyed music, particularly jazz and gospel, and played the guitar. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, art and crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe D. Gillespie, in 1993; and two brothers, Richard and James Sparks. Survivors include two daughters, Lynda G. Steltz of Vancouver and Jeffi Davis of Milwaukie, Ore; a brother, Ralph Sparks of Castle Rock; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Vancouver Funeral Chapel with Bishop Noph Marsden officiating. on August 14, 2003.⁶

Mr. Gillespie served in the Navy during World War II. He worked at Longview Fibre and Weyerhaeuser. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to play cards, especially cribbage. He is survived by two daughters, Lynda G. Steltz of Vancouver, and Brenda Gillespie of Sayler, Calif; a son, Harold E. Gillespie of Red Bluff, Calif; three brothers, William, Herbert and James, all in Virginia; two sisters, Janet and Freda, in Virginia; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, Joe D. Gillespie in 1993; two sisters, Phyllis and Joyce; and two grandchildren. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. on May 11, 2002.⁴
