     David Bruce Purdy was buried at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.^2,3 He was born on June 9, 1934 at Putnam Co., West Virginia.^7,2,3 He married Mary Frances Stephens on January 24, 1958 at Putnam Co., West Virginia.^3,5 David Bruce Purdy died on December 31, 2005 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 71.^7,2,3 He David Bruce Purdy, 71, departed this life on Dec. 31, 2005, at Charleston Area Medical Center after a short illness. Born June 9, 1934, in Putnam County, David was the son of the late James Bruce Purdy and Audry Edwards Purdy. David was a 1951 graduate of Poca High School and graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1955. He received his master's of Education from Marshall University. He was a teacher, principal, and education administrator who retired in 1989 as a Title 1 Director in the WV State Department of Education. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Reserves. David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Stephens Purdy and four children, David Bruce Purdy Jr. and wife, Pam, from Roanoke, Va., Pamella Purdy and sons, Zan and Samuel from Moneta, Va., Mark Purdy and wife, Donna, and sons, Adam, Zachary and Matthew from Cross Lanes, Brett Purdy and wife, Renee, and son, Jackson from Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by brother, Morris and Rosalie Purdy from Poca; sister, Phyllis and Dr. Richard McCrea from Houston, Texas; brother, Verl and Joyce Purdy from Charlotte, N.C; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, many loving relatives and friends. His family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the doctors, staff and nurses at Charleston Area Medical Center. David enjoyed farming, making sorghum syrup, apple butter, gardening, woodworking, and family gatherings. Activities he was involved in were PTA President at Point Harmony Elementary School; Boy Scouts and Lion Club Leader; Little League baseball; Political Republican Activist; outstanding service in the Jaycees Club; National Federal Education Programs Leader Award; U.S. Army Marksmanship Award; National Sweet Sorghum Producers and Processors Association; placed second in national competition for quality of sorghum syrup; and was on the Board of Directors for NSPPAA. Friends may call on Tuesday, Jan. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home in Poca. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes. on January 2, 2006.³

     Phyllis Belle Purdy was buried at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.⁴ She was born on April 16, 1936 at St. Albans, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.^5,4 As of circa 1960,her married name was McCrea.⁴ She married Richard D. McCrea M.D. circa 1960.^3,4 Phyllis Belle Purdy died on July 5, 2007 at Texas at age 71.^5,4 She Mrs. Phyllis B. McCrea, RN, 71, born April 16, 1936 in St. Albans, passed away July 5, 2007. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years in West Virginia, Michigan, and Texas. Phyllis felt her life on earth was to serve, which she did with love and compassion. She was the daughter of the late James Bruce and Audrey Purdy of Poca. She was also preceded in death by her brother, David; and daughter-in-law, Marlene. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard D. McCrea, MD; two sons, William B. McCrea, MD, and Richard S. McCrea; daughter, Nancy and husband W. Alan Sawyer Jr; five grandchildren, Scott and Chaz McCrea, Hannah and Will Sawyer and Shannon Hart; two brothers, Morris and Verl Purdy. A tribute to the life of Phyllis will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. on July 9, 2007.⁴
