Robert Richard "Bob" Weilacher was buried at Tennessee Colony Cemetery, Tennessee Colony, Anderson Co., Texas.1,2 He married Sandra Aline Walker.4 Robert Richard "Bob" Weilacher was born on December 2, 1936 at Warren, Warren Co., Pennsylvania.1,2 He died on April 30, 2019 at Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, at age 82.1,2 He Robert Richard "Bob" Weilacher, 82, passed away peacefully while holding his daughter's hand on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 in Tucson, AZ. He was the eldest child of Marceittus Waive (Shay) and John Gordon Weilacher. Robert was born December 2, 1936 in Warren, PA. Although he left Pennsylvania in his teens, Robert maintained a deep affection for the people and places of his childhood, returning often to visit family and friends. In 1955, after graduating from Brockway High School, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 3d Armored Division at Ft. Knox, KY where he completed basic infantry training. After serving several years in Germany, Robert was relieved from active duty at the Presidio of San Francisco in 1958 with the permanent rank of SP5. He received his honorable discharge from the Army of the United States in 1962. Robert enrolled in the School of Inhalation Therapy at the St. Joseph Infirmary in Louisville, KY in 1959 and joined the American Association of Inhalation Therapists in 1960. Robert became a Registered Respiratory Therapist in 1965. Thus began his life-long enthusiasm for the educational and technical aspects of respiratory care that would ultimately improve the health of patients. During his 35 years as an active therapist, Robert enjoyed a variety of workplaces and positions. He was an Educational & Technical Director, served on the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) Board of Directors, elected Vice President then President of the AARC, and also served on their Presidents' Council. Robert served a term as a Trustee of the American Respiratory Therapy Foundation and was also an Associate Executive Director of the AARC. In 1975, Robert was appointed Executive Director of the AARC. Robert founded and was named Managing Editor of the AARTimes publication (now AARC Times) in 1977. He was an appointed AARC Historian and actively served for ten years. Robert was honored with a Life Membership in the AARC and in 1994 was awarded the Jimmy Albert Young Medal, of which he was exceptionally grateful and proud. In 2001, Robert was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association for Respiratory Care, the culmination of a long career in his chosen and esteemed profession. Robert lived the majority of his life in Texas and for the past 31 years was a resident of Palestine, TX. In 1996, Robert became the General Manager and co-owner of Convalescent Aids, a medical supply store that also provided respiratory care. He concurrently worked as a somnologist and in 2009, at the youthful age of 72, he reluctantly decided to retire. Robert took pleasure in the many organizations that he chose to round out his active life. In his younger years he was in the Toastmasters, Kiwanis, several Chambers of Commerce and in 1972 was one of the Outstanding Young Men in America. He relished being among the honored society of Kentucky Colonels and also the American Legion, Texas Department, Post 85. He was a proud member of the Association of 3d Armored Division Veterans, attending many of their "Spearheader" reunions and was pleased to aid their efforts to erect a 3d Armored Division monument at Ft. Benning. Robert served three terms on the Anderson County Historical Commission, one as Treasurer. He was also involved with the Palestine Community Theater and helped with the fundraising for the restoration of the historic Texas Theater in Palestine. Robert, a voracious reader, was a staunch supporter of the Palestine Library Friends, contributing countless hours to their bookstore. He also served on their Board in several capacities, including President. As a natural entertainer, he enthusiastically participated in their series of theatrical fundraisers, "Murder On The dis-Oriented Express." Some special experiences in Robert's life include: family reunions, weddings and graduations, the publication of numerous articles (both technical and historical), cross-country and international travel, visiting Civil War battlefields, serving as co-sponsor (Godfather) in an Apache Sunrise Ceremony, crewing under his brother on a schooner as part of an Atlantic Rally Cruise to Gibraltar, working as a background artist on two television episodes in Hollywood, being a featured speaker at the dedication of the Sulphur Springs Historical Monument in Cochise Co., AZ, and attending his nephew-in-law's official Retirement Ceremony from the U.S. Army at the Pentagon. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed collecting stamps, immersing himself in the research and compilation of his family's genealogy, model railroading, flying via his computer flight simulator, continuing his personal education through The Great Courses, dancing, and singing karaoke in the privacy of his home and with family. His parents and cherished son, Jeffrey Scott Weilacher, preceded Robert in death as did his siblings; Norman Everett, Kenneth William, Patricia Ann, Nancy Lee, Helen Roberta, Elmer Roland, Vincent Eugene, Lyle Roberson, and Leslie Russell. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Jo Weilacher of Pearce, AZ; his daughter-in-law, Andrea Cervantez Weilacher (and her children Aimee, Jordan, Alyssa, and Emily who fondly called him "Papa Robert"); his siblings Susan Marie, Margaret Frances, David Rodney, Edward Gerald, Bruce Michael, Mabel Elizabeth, Debra Jean, Timothy Duane, Kathryn Louise, and Lloyd Marshall. Survivors also include his brothers-in-law, Glenn Alan Hazen, Sanford Rederer, and John McGee; sister-in-law, Deborah Weilacher; cousin-in-law, Charlene Astramovich; his beloved nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and others across the country. Sadly, Robert was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease several years ago. But even as the disease had him firmly in its grasp Robert maintained his humanity and compassion, his humor, his love of children, travel, singing and dancing. He continued to enjoy the nuances of language and endeavored to remain a gentleman in all things. Robert will be greatly missed by all those who knew, loved, and admired him. A memorial service will be held at the Tennessee Colony Cemetery. on June 3, 2019.1
