He was born at Craig Healing Springs on Johns Creek on November 5, 1916, a son of the late Robert Ross and Ola Blanche Elmore Dudding. Oscar was a devoted Christian, brought up in the Forks of Johns Creek Christian Church and was a member of Lucas Memorial Christian Church. He had served in the CCC Camp in Craig County as a young man, he was an excellent welder, and an expert heavy equipment operator, having worked at the Standard Lime Company at Kimballton and in the strip mining business in West Virginia. Oscar was an avid golfer and hit the first ball (unofficially) on the new Castle Rock Golf Course in Pembroke, and was able to break eighty after he was eighty. He always had time for kids and was always the one that you knew would come when you needed help. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son "Butch" Oscar B. Dudding Jr. and a great-grandson, Joshua Dudding. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of seventy-two years, Lorraine Martin Dudding; his son, Benjamin R. Dudding and his wife, Judy Williams Dudding, of Newport; his daughter-in-law, Joyce Thomas Dudding, of Pembroke; his four grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren (including a special little Brooke Carter); his devoted and always helpful nephews, Doug and Darrell Martin, of Newport, who were there for him during his illness. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. on September 4, 2011.1

Dudding and his wife, Judy Williams Dudding, of Newport; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Thomas Dudding, of Pembroke; her four grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren, including a special little Brooke Carter (that was a light in her life), her devoted and always helpful nephews, Doug and Darrell Martin, of Newport; and her faithful and skilled caregivers Angela and Ricky Slate. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, October 3, 2013, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating.
