Burkhardt, died Saturday morning at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. Mrs. Burkhardt was born in Muncie, attended Washington and Blaine elementary schools, and Wilson Junior High School, and graduated in 1955 from Central High School. She spent her entire life in the Muncie community. She attended the Full Gospel Temple and was a member of Eagles Auxiliary, Muncie Aerie 231, and Women's Democrat Club. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, John F. Main, Selma, and Allen Burkhardt Jr., at home; one daughter, Tara Burkhardt, also at home; her mother, Mrs. Edith (Peg) Purvis, Muncie; one sister, Mrs. Ronnie (Viretta) Murphy, Parker City; two grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mecks Mortuary with Rev. James Helton, pastor of Full Gospel Temple, officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Grove. on June 1, 1980.2

"Jennie" Copple, on September 8, 1923 at Lucas Co., Indiana.2,3 Sereno Samuel "Reno" Freeman died on January 20, 1949 at Toledo, Lucas Co., Ohio, at age 72.3 He Reno S. Freeman, 2736 Sherbrooke Rd., former Toledo jeweler and son of the late J. J. Freeman, died today in St. Vincent's Hospital after a long illness. He was 72. Mr. Freeman was treasurer of the old J. J. Freeman Jewelry Store, 107 Summit St., when it was incorperated in 1906. He was a graduate of the Perkskill N. Y. Military Academy and the Chicago Opthaline College. Mr. Freeman was in charge of the store's optical department until 1922 when he went into the jewelry department. The store was later merged into the Broer-Freeman Co. now at Jefferson Ave. and Erie St. In 1933 he helped organize and was president of the Freeman-Schutte Motor Sales Co. Active in golf and yachting circles, Mr. Freeman was widely known also for his work in music. He organized the Shrine Chantere of Zenobia Shrine; at one time directed the choir at First Baptist Church where he was a member, and was a member of the Orpheus Club. At one time he was active in the Masons, he was a lifelong resident of Toledo. His wife, Jeanette Smith Freeman, and sons, Robert S. and James J. survive. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. on January 20, 1949.3

He was born July 27, 1924 in Toledo to Sereno Samuel and Jeanette (Smith) Freeman. Robert and his family moved to Florida in the 1930’s, and he graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School, Miami, in 1942. In September of 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army Signal Corps Reserve. In May 1943 he was called to active service and accepted to the United States Army Air Corps. In December 1943, the government needed to transfer Robert to the Third Battalion, 309th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division where he attended radio code school. He then headed to the European Theatre of Operations. He spent the war in Central Europe and fought in the Ardennes, the Siegfried Line, the Battle of the Bulge, the Ruhr pocket, the Schwammenauel Dam, and the March to the Rhine, crossing the Ludendorf Bridge at Remagen. He earned three Battle Stars and a Combat Infantry badge. He was honorably discharged in March of 1946. Robert graduated from the University of Toledo with Baccalaureate and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1951 and 1963 respectively. He was employed by the Toledo Scale Company, Baker Brothers, Inc., the Haughton Elevator Company, and Pan American World Airways. Most of his career was spent working with the Strong Electric Company on City Park Avenue, where he served as a Senior Project Engineer and later as Director of Engineering. He completed his career at the Kneisley Electric Company. Robert’s work focused on the design and development of high intensity electro-optical lighting systems—the xenon arc, for motion picture projection lamphouses, and elliptical reflectors for lamphouses. He received three US patents and authored and presented several papers to technical societies. Robert was a member of the Conn-Weissenberger American Legion Post 587, American Electroplaters Society, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and the Illuminating Engineering Society. Robert loved building things, and was an excellent woodworker and electrician. Most of all, he loved his family. He was totally devoted to Cora, his wife of 69 years, who passed last September. Surviving are daughters, Mary (Peter) Vonu and Barbara (Richard) Drabik; grandchildren, Marshal, Mason, Chelsea, Peter, Trevor, and Brant; great-grandchildren, Blake and Brynn; Robert was preceded in death by his brother, James Jay Freeman. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. on January 4, 2018.4

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening but most of all being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving is her husband of 69 years, Robert; daughters Mary (Peter) Vonu and Barbara (Richard) Drabik; grandchildren Marshal, Mason, Chelsea, Peter, Trevor and Brant; great-grandchildren Blake and Brynn; and brother James. C. Williams. Cora was preceded in death by her brother Richard E. Williams. Interment will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. on September 14, 2017.1
