M, b. July 14, 1932, d. August 13, 1995
His Social Security Number was 218-26-8588.2 Willis Frank Taylor Jr. Willis "Skip" Taylor Jr., a retired Marine Corps master sergeant, died Friday of a heart attack at Washington Hospital Center in the District of Columbia. He was 63 and lived in Laurel. During his 21-year military career, he trained recruits as a drill instructor at Parris Island, S.C., from 1952 to 1954 and in 1957, and at the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot in San Diego in 1956. "He's probably up (in heaven) now organizing everything," said his wife of 42 years, the former Bobbie June Brashears. Born in Martinsburg, W.Va., Mr. Taylor moved to Brooklyn in South Baltimore as a child and graduated from Polytechnic Institute in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He also was stationed in Vietnam, South Korea, Okinawa, Virginia and North Carolina. His wife said he used Marinelike discipline to raise their four children. "He was very, very strict, and the kids would be under house arrest or yard arrest," Mrs. Taylor said, laughing. "He would say, 'OK, you have to go to your room on room arrest, and you can only come out for meals and school.' " Despite his strictness, she said, her husband was a quiet, soft-spoken man who enjoyed golf and spending time with his eight grandchildren. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1971 because of a heart condition, and the couple moved to Laurel that year. In 1977, Mr. Taylor enrolled at Ben Franklin University in Washington, graduating in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in commercial science. In 1986, he became comptroller at Jack Hall Inc., a construction company in College Park that specializes in drywall, handling accounting and job estimates. He retired again in 1991 for health reasons. He was a past president of the Maryland Gypsum and Drywall Union and a member of St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in Laurel. Other survivors include three daughters, Pamela Gahan of Charlottesville, Va., Cheryl Tucker of Laurel and Bette Huntemann of Olney; a son, Robert Taylor of Escondido, Calif; three sisters, Gloria Parr of Florida, and Eve Young and Sharon Sheldon of Glen Burnie; and two brothers, Lin Gartside of Akron, Ohio, and Ed Gartside of Ocean City.4 He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.1 He married Bobbie June Brashears, daughter of Robert Alexander Brashears and Inez Roberta Lee.4,3 Willis Frank Taylor Jr. was born on July 14, 1932 at Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., West Virginia.1,2,5 He died on August 13, 1995 at Washington, D.C., at age 63.1,4,2,6,5
