Born November 20, 1942 on Powell Mountain in Oakvale, WV he was a son of the late Jack Owen and Lakie Martin Powell. Paul joined the U.S. Navy where he was medically discharged in 1961. Paul retired from the WV Turnpike Commission with 38 years of loyal and dedicated service. He was awarded the Supervisor of the year award and had over 2 million "safe driving miles". In 1975, Paul founded and operated Paul's License Service on Mercer Street and later moved to Thorn Street. He was a member of Goodwyns Chapel Church of Christ for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jackson F. Powell, Sr., a niece, Terri Powell Barie and his former wife, Anna M. Powell. Paul is survived by his loving daughter, Rhonda A. Thomas and step-son, Michael G. Smith and companion Dora both of Princeton; Grandchildren, Heather Ramirez and husband Fred, Chasen Thomas and wife Jackie, and the grandchildren he raised, Tamala Gore and husband Terrence and Gregory Smith and wife Allie all of Princeton; Great-grandchildren, Dhestyn, Saeghyn, Glaecyn, Khamrin, Ayce, Ky'Anna, Kaize, Lexy and Madison; Loving sister, Thressa Carper and husband Orville; Special niece, Gina Sively and companion Howie, and nephew, Jacky Powell and wife Sandy all of Princeton; His significant other, Pearl Akers of Princeton. She was a former title clerk for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Princeton and Paul’s License Service. She was 1986 graduate of Princeton High School and a graduate of National Business College in Bluefield, VA. She was a member of New Life Tabernacle in Princeton and a former member of Burke Memorial Baptist Church. Terri is survived by her husband, Charles Roger Barie, Jr. of Princeton; two daughters, Brandi Fain and husband Douglas, and Amber Lynn Barie, all of Princeton; one son, Charles R. “Chucky” Barie, III and wife Tabby of Princeton; four grandchildren, James and Jordan Fain, and Hunter and Levi Barie; one sister, Donna K. Shaver and husband Jim of Princeton; two brothers, Daniel “Danny” Brown, and Jackson “Jacky” Powell and wife Sandra, all of Princeton; special uncles, Cleve Powell of Jacksonville, FL, and Paul Powell of Princeton; special aunt, Thressa Carper of Princeton; cousins, Rhonda Thomas and Gina Sively; numerous nieces and nephews; and several special friends.
