She was predeceased by her husband, Bennett "Pete" Haymes Yeatts; two sisters, Ida Sue Osborne and Becky Holley; and a brother, Cary Murphy. Mrs. Yeatts was a member of Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church and styled many of her friends and neighbors hair. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and visiting the nursing home. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers; and watching sports, especially UNC basketball games. She is survived by two sons, Ramsey Yeatts and his wife, Becky, of Danville and Brian Yeatts and his wife, Rachel, of Blairs; one daughter, Debbie Yeatts Ingram and her husband, Louis, of Nathalie; two brothers, Billy Murphy of Dry Fork and Pete Murphy of Dry Fork; one sister, Mary Jo Shortt of Altavista; and four grandchildren, Justice Scearce, Emma Yeatts, Ian Yeatts and Elizabeth Yeatts. A Pittsylvania County native, he earned degrees from Ferrum College, Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Tech. He spent the bulk of his career as an English teacher in Gretna Junior High and later became supervisor of language arts and gifted education for the county. He spent short stints as assistant principal at Blairs Middle School and was principal of Whitmell Elementary School. He had served at Mount Airy for the past two years. At his death, Mr. Yeatts was serving his fourth term as a member of the Town Council. He had been vice chairman for four years. A former member of the National Guard, he also was a member of the Gretna Lions Club and Phi Delta Kappa. Survivors include his wife, Joan Shelton Yeatts; two sons, Gregory L. Yeatts of Lynchburg and Brandon D. Yeatts of Gretna; a daughter, Sarah R. Yeatts of Newport News; his mother, Edna Willis Yeatts Love of Gretna; four brothers, Alfred Yeatts of Bedford, Pete Yeatts, Garnett Yeatts and Darrell Yeatts, and a sister, Jeanette Y. Blair, all of Gretna. on July 23, 1998.²
