     Steven Ray Pendleton Steven Ray Pendleton, 61, of Salem, began his walk on the Streets of Glory on Thursday, November 29, 2012 while in the loving arms of his wife and children. Steve was a family man first and continually expressed unconditional love to his wife, children, and grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, was a movie buff, and loved supporting sports in Salem. He was known for being outgoing, humorous, and an inspiration to his large group of special friends. He was the example of faith and courage, a simple man with a knack for making everyone laugh. He was a spiritual leader of his home teaching his family how to live and love. His star is now in Heaven, shining down bright on us. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Katherine Pendleton; son, Shannon Pendleton; brothers, Johnny Pendleton and Vincent Pendleton; and mother-in-law, Virginia Helvey Vass. His surviving family includes his wife of 35 years, Rhonda Pendleton; children, Melissa Pendleton Vest and husband, Tony, Chad Steven Pendleton and wife, Chris, and Derek Matthew Pendleton and wife, Brandi; grandsons, Jacob Daniel Hatfield and Zachary Steven Hatfield; granddaughters, Kelsen Myers Pendleton and Ansley Christine Pendleton; brother, Jack Pendleton and wife, Emily; sister, Kathy Chrisman and husband, Chris; brothers-in-law, Michael Helvey and wife, Diane, and Anthony Helvey; special nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. Rev.      Abitha Jane Wright was buried at Walker-Yeatts Cemetery, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.5 She Mrs. Abitha Wright Yeatts, one of Danville's oldest citizens died Sunday evening at the age of 84 years at the residence of her son, Dr. W. C Yeatts, Jefferson avenue. Mrs. Yeatts had been an invalid for a number of years, but despite her illness had held her own, until recently when a gradual decline left her very ill. She gradually weakened until her passing Sunday evening at 7 o'clock. The deceased was born near Green Pond, Va., Feb. 6th 1846 and was married to Captain John R. Yeatts in Nov. 1866 just after the Civil War. Together they went through reconstruction days spending practically all their lives at the old homestead. Her husband preceded her to the grave several years ago. Mrs. Yeatts joined the Methodist church as a young woman and remained a devout member throughout her life. She is survived by two sons, John R. Yeatts and Dr. W. C. Yeatts, both of Danville, two daughters, Mrs. W. R. Mattox of Altavista, Va., and Mrs. O. B. Cawtharve of Denver, Col. A host of grandchildren, thirty-three in number, and thirty six great grandchildren survive her. The funeral will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from the old homestead near Green Pond church. Rev. J. Arthur Winn of this city, conducting services.3 She was born on February 6, 1846 at Green Pond, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia; Her death certificate has a birth date of Feb 7, 1846.3,4 As of November 29, 1866,her married name was Yeatts.2 She married Captain John Richard Yeatts, son of Willis C. Yeatts and Mary Ann Bennett, on November 29, 1866 at Pullens, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.1,2,3 Abitha Jane Wright died on March 9, 1930 at Danville, Virginia, at age 84.4

He was a native of Pittsylvania County, a son of the late Captain John Richard Yates, Sr and Abitha Wright Yeatts. For many years he was employed in the merchantile stores of Danville, having retired eight years ago. He was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church in Danville and a member of Modern Woodsmen of America. Surviving are his wife and the following sons and daughters Opel Wade Yeatts, Sr of Roanoke, VA, Ernest Samuel Yeatts and Stover L Yeatts of Danville, Harvey A Yeatts of Washington, DC, Mrs. Hughie H Goodwin of Apex, NC, Mrs. Nancy Omohundro of Arlington, VA and Mrs. Ernest Bennett of Ringgold, VA. He also leaves one brother Dr. W C Yeatts of Danville and sisters Mrs. Robert Maddox of Bassett and Mrs. Janie Cawthorne of Los Angeles, VA. Eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren also survive. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park. Dr. Yeatts died Thursday morning at his home. The retired physician was 86. He received his degree in medicine at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Yeatts first practiced in Pittsylvania county and then for two years in Maryland. In 1907 he settled in Danville where he continued to practice until his retirement. He was a member or Moseley Memorial Methodist Church and the Morotock Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Blair Yeatts and seven children, Mrs. Carol Y. Anderson, Danville; Dr. Harry B. Yeatts, Buenos Aires; W. Avon Yeatts, Richmond; Mrs. Ethel Yeatts Drew, Danville; William S. Yeatts, Coral Gables, Fla; Robert L. Yeatts, Detroit, and Mrs. C. L. Clotlfelter of Hampton. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Robert Mattox of Bassett and Mrs. Jamie Cawthorne of Los Angeles, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. on May 31, 1957.3

She was 30 years of age and was born near Green Pond, this county, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Yates. She has resided in this city during the past eight years. She was a member of the Patton Street Christian Church. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Gravely is survived by two children, Richard Spencer and Wilbur Armstead Gravely. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Messrs. J. R. Yates, Jr., of Green Pond; Dr. W. C. Yates of Blaine, W. Va; Mrs. H. A. W. Smith of Green Pond; Mrs. R. W. Mattox of Lynchburg and Miss Janie Yates of Jacksonville, Fla. The funeral services will be conducted from the Patton Street Christian Church this afternoon. Interment will be made in Green Hill cemetery. on January 25, 1908.4

"Carlos" Cawthorne in 1908.1 Abitha Jamie Yeatts Mrs. Jamie Cawthorne, 94, a resident of Southern California for much of her life, died Tuesday at Garden Village Care Center. She came here seven years ago to be with a daughter, Mrs. Clara Thornton, 2028 N. Tenth. Mrs. Cawthorne was born Jamie Yates Sept. 16, 1884, at Sandy Level, Va., and spent her early life there. She attended normal school and taught several years prior to her marriage to Charles Cawthorne in 1908. They travelled extensively in the United States and Canada. He died in 1938. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Thornton are another daughter, Mrs. Doris Reynolds of Idaho Springs; a granddaughter; and three greatgrandchildren. on May 16, 1979.1 She died on May 16, 1979 at Grand Junction, Mesa Co., Colorado, at age 94.2

Although she had lived in Danville in recent years, she maintained her membership in Greenpond Baptist Church in this county. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she leaves a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. from the graveside in the Woody family cemetery near Climax. on August 3, 1965.4
