He graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1961. Emmett then attended Virginia Tech and graduated in 1966. He was employed at U.S. News & World Report magazine and retired in 2009. Emmett was a loving, caring father to his daughter, Jennifer Overstreet and his son, Emmett Carrington Overstreet, III and daughter-in-law, Lyndsey (Lewis) Overstreet. He loved to play golf and especially loved to play and sing bluegrass music and attend as many of his son’s softball games as possible. Emmett was an avid Redskins fan. Besides his children, Emmett is survived by 2 grandchildren, Violet Overstreet and Emmett Carrington Overstreet, IV; whom he adored. He is also survived by 2 nephews, Jack and Mark Jacobs, their wives and children and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Jean Overstreet Jacobs.2 He was buried at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Fairfax Co., Virginia.1 He was born on July 6, 1943 at Washington, D.C..1,2 He died on September 13, 2015 at Falls Church, Fairfax Co., Virginia, at age 72.1,2
