     Mary Ann Bell was born on June 17, 1954 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,4,5 As of July 31, 1976,her married name was Julg.3 She married Charles Albert Julg Jr. on July 31, 1976 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.3,4 Mary Ann Bell died on January 8, 2023 at Sun City, Maricopa Co., Arizona, at age 68.4 She Mary Ann Bell Julg, 68, of Sun City, Ariz., but formerly of Salem, Va. and Copper Hill, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2023. Born in Roanoke, Va., to the late Leslie Pierce and Edith May Matkins Bell on June 17, 1954, she was also preceded in death by her aunt and guardian, Betty H. Bell. Mary Ann was a gifted and well-loved educator who retired after 34 years of teaching in the Alleghany County and Roanoke City public school systems. The Blacksburg High School graduate earned a bachelor's degree from what is now Longwood University and a master's degree from Radford University. Mary Ann's retirement allowed her to spend invaluable time with her grandsons, first in "Big Sky Country" in the great state of Montana and most recently in Arizona. In her spare time, Mary Ann loved to quilt and watch her grandsons play sports and participate in school activities. Above all, she adored her family; she was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Charles Julg; children, Charles L. Julg and his wife, Chastity, of Gastonia, N.C., and Kelli McDonald and her husband, Greg, of Peoria, Ariz; grandsons, Hank McDonald and Walt McDonald; siblings, Doug Bell and his wife, Arlene, Rodney Bell and his wife, Karen, Virginia Martin, Susie Bell Johnson and husband, Glenn, Mike Bell and wife, Carol, Pam Reed and husband, Robert, and Jackie Triplett and husband, Bill; uncle and guardian, E. Stephen Bell and his wife, Rose Anne, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Stoneridge Hospice, in Phoenix, Ariz., for the compassionate care given to both Mary Ann and family during this difficult time. on January 22, 2023.4

     Douglas Martin Bell Douglas Martin Bell, 69, of Copper Hill, Virginia, passed away after a sudden brief illness on Friday, May 23, 2025. His wife, son and sister were by his side. Doug was born in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Leslie Pierce and Edith May Matkins Bell on March 23, 1956. He is also preceded in death by his aunt and guardian, Betty H. Bell and his sisters Baby Diane Alice Bell and Mary Ann Bell Julg. He retired in 2015 from Lowe's after 26 years working in 11 stores from Tennessee to Virginia. Doug was a Blacksburg High School graduate and a multi-sport athlete who still holds the outdoor shot-put record there. He attended William and Mary for a short time until he moved back to his family's farm where he and his wife, Arlene, began their life together. Doug embodied old-fashioned virtue, self-reliance, toughness, tolerance, and living life to a higher code. He had the heart of a poet and the eye of an artist, and he wrote funny and heartfelt songs. His heart was always on that patch of earth in the mountains of Floyd, Virginia. He and the farm's history were mentioned in the recent book, "VIRGINIA'S LOST APPALACHIAN TRAIL" by MILLS KELLY, in which he summarized Doug in the words "Doug Bell is a man who belongs exactly where he is." Above all Doug adored his family. He was greatly loved and his presence will be sorely missed. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Arlene Bruno Bell and his son, Andrew Douglas Bell of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his siblings, Susie Bell Johnson (Glenn), Rodney Bell (Karen), Ginny Martin, Mike Bell (Carol), Pam Reed (Robert), Jackie Triplett (Bill), brother-in-law Charlie Julg (Dana); uncle and guardian E. Stephen Bell (Rose Anne); as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.3 He was born on March 23, 1956 at Roanoke, Virginia.2,3 He married Arlene A. Bruno in May, 1978 at Hammonton, Atlantic Co., New Jersey.6,3 Douglas Martin Bell died on May 23, 2025 at Virginia at age 69.3
