Born in Saltville, Va., Wynona spent her early childhood years in Luray before moving to Roanoke, Va. She graduated from William Fleming High School and attended Virginia Western College. She was a local beauty contest winner and participated in numerous Roanoke area theatrical productions including the Barn Dinner Theatre. Her extensive airline career began with Eastern Airlines in Washington, D.C., transferring to Dallas, Texas, St. Louis, Mo. and finally Virginia Beach, Va. where she retired from US Air due to health issues. Wynona had a vibrant, caring spirit. She was passionately involved and interested in political issues, especially those dealing with human rights and equality. Her brilliance, determination and beautiful smile will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held at the French Family Cemetery in Wolf Creek, Giles County, Va. on January 20, 2010.³

Jerry Redmond & wife, Darlene, of Augusta, GA; sisters, Francis "Dee" Gilliam, of Roanoke, and Carolyn Ann Pardue, of Salem; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved extended family at the Parkway House of Prayer. In addition to his wife, Mr. Giles is survived by five sons, Carl "Butch" Deaton of Valdosta, Ga., Michael Giles of Atlanta, Ga., Dennis Deaton, of Luray, Samuel "Buck" Roach of Strasburg, Justin "Bubba" Correa of Elkton; seven daughters, Maureen Giles Estes of Front Royal, Robin Huffman of Strasburg, Theresa "Terri" Roach of Shenandoah, April Cubbage and husband, Ronnie, of Stanley, Alkini Williams and husband, Curtis, of Nokesville, Olivia Meadows and husband, Jared, of Elkton, and Jasma Bowman of Elkton; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah Smith and Teresa Blakely; two brothers, Billy Giles and James Giles; and a sister, Betty Chieppa. Burial will follow at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton. on February 4, 2011.³
