     Opal Ella Bain Opal Ella Bain Shaffer Lawrence, Oct 12, 1934 - July 14, 2023. Opal Ella Bain Shaffer Lawrence of Radford went to her heavenly home on July 14, 2023. Opal was 88 years old. Opal loved life and her family was the center of her life. She loved getting the family together at the old home place and to talk about the days of growing up there. To her family she was known as Aunt Tootie. She had a very contagious laugh and a heart of gold. Opal was always there to help others when she was able. In her later years, you could find her sitting on her front porch enjoying the fresh air and watching the birds. She would always welcome a conversation. Aunt Tootie will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lawrence; two sons, Jay and Dana Shaffer; her parents, LeRoy Bain Sr. and Myrtle Shelburne Bain; siblings, Noah Bain, Forest Bain, LeRoy Bain Jr., Loraine Bain Ratcliff, Grover Lee Bain Sr., and Bobby Bain.
Survivors include a son, Bruce Stephen Shaffer (Patricia) of Radford; grandchildren, Dana, Ben, Terra, David, and Amber; 5 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Lorie Shaffer; and a special caregiver, Linda Carroll. A graveside service will be held at the Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg.4 She was buried at Sunset Cemetery, 501 South Franklin Street, Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.4 She was born on October 12, 1934 at Pulaski Co., Virginia.1,2,3,4 As of May 27, 1972,her married name was Jones.1 She married Calvin Ronnie Jones, son of Roy Blake Jones and Elizabeth Julie Coleman, on May 27, 1972 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.1 Opal Ella Bain and Calvin Ronnie Jones were divorced on December 27, 1978 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.2 Opal Ella Bain died on July 14, 2023 at Virginia at age 88.4

     Elizabeth Mae Creasy Elizabeth Mae Henderson, Jun 11, 1929 - Nov 16, 2017. Just before midnight on Thursday, November 16, 2017, our Mom, Granny, and Great Granny, Elizabeth Mae Henderson, reached her arms up to Jesus and he welcomed her home. Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred L. and Lillian W. Creasy; her husband, William ‘Bill’ Henderson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nora Lee and Glenn Thompson and Ruby and Robert Graham. Surviving her are her daughters, Wanda Jones Basham and husband Rick Basham, Brenda G. Jones; grandchildren, Amy Basham Kyle and husband Jay and their children, Hayden and Kayleigh, Jason Basham and wife Pam and their children, Marshall, Lindsey, and Logan, Justin Vaught and wife Tiffany and their daughters, Arya and Kennedy (due in January 2018), Emily Reynolds and her husband, J.C. and their daughter, Ellie Brooke. She is also survived by four nephews and two nieces, all of whom were special to her. Special thanks to Kerry McGrath and the nursing staff at Carilion NRV Medical Center, and Dr. Leslie Badillo and staff for their guidance and compassion. Mom loved flowers, gardening, and crocheting, but above all she loved her family. We know this love will remain with her in her heavenly home as will our love for her.      Wanda Faye Jones married Richard Earl Basham, son of Earl Stewart Basham and Eva Lois McNeil.1,3 Wanda Faye Jones Wanda Jones Basham, age 73, of Christiansburg, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Christiansburg on September 3, 1950, to the late Calvin Ronnie Jones and Elizabeth Mae Creasy. Wanda graduated from Christiansburg High School and spent 36 years in banking, retiring as a branch manager in 2005. She loved her family deeply, and she was an amazing wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will always be remembered for her love of animals and her unwavering dedication to her family. She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Basham; daughter, Amy B. Kyle (Jay); son, Jason R. Basham (Pam); sister, Brenda Jones; grandchildren, Marshall Basham, Hayden Kyle, Kayleigh Kyle, Logan Bosley (Emma) and Lindsey Bosley, great-grandchildren, Audrey and Elena Bosley, special brother-in-law Gerald Basham, and special nephew Eddie Burlingame (Tracy). Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery. He was also preceded in death by one son, David Eugene Austin; six brothers, Beecher Chaffin, Jim Chaffin, Joe Austin, Curtis Austin, Earl Austin, and Little Paul; and three sisters, Cora Martin, Mildred Lawrence, and Audrey Meade. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the U.M.W.A. David Eugene Austin of Troutville was cleaning up the plant with a small front-end loader and apparently backed the loader under a conveyor belt that wasn't moving, said Jerry Caldwell, chief deputy of the Botetourt County Sheriff's Department. Austin was pinned between the two pieces of equipment and died at the scene, Caldwell said. on October 6, 1989.8 He David Eugene Austin, age 23, died Thursday. He is survived by his mother, Mary James Austin, Blue Ridge; father, Jerry Lee Austin, St. Paul; maternal grandmother, Virginia James, Salem; paternal grandmother, Mrs. John Austin, St. Paul; girlfriend, Heather Looney, Salem.
