Paul Robert White Sr. died on October 18, 2018 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 90.2 He Paul Robert White Sr., 90, of Roanoke, Va., died on Thursday, October 18, 2018. He was born on December 8, 1927, in Jonesboro, Tenn., the son of the late Robert and Effie Miller White. Paul was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lee Beam, who died in 1985; his son-in-law, Kirby Leland; and stepdaughter, Susan Childress. He is survived by his second wife of 31 years, Geneva Bell White; and his children, Carol White Leland and Paul Robert White Jr. (Judi Miller); four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and many other extended family members. Paul was baptized into the Christian faith on April 5, 1939, at the First Church of the Brethren in Johnson City, Tenn. He was licensed there on March 11, 1945 and ordained there on September 8, 1946. Brother White was advanced to the eldership by the Southern District of Virginia (now Virlina District) on September 8, 1957 at the Fraternity Church of the Brethren near Winston-Salem, N.C. Of our three remaining elders, he was the only one remaining who was advanced in this district. Paul graduated from East Tennessee State College (now ETSU) in 1949 and from Bethany Biblical Seminary (now Bethany Theological Seminary) in 1952. Full-time pastorates served included, French Broad (Southeastern District) from 1952-54, Fraternity from 1954-58, Roanoke, Ninth Street from 1958-67, Somerset (Western PA) from 1967-76, Akron Springfield (No. Ohio District) from 1976-86 and Staunton (Shenandoah District) from 1986-1992. In retirement, Paul served on a part-time basis from 1993-98 as pastor of the Trinity Church in Virlina. He also served as interim at Bethlehem, Rocky Mount-First, Saunders Grove and Vinton before concluding his active ministry in 2009. A private interment will take place at the Boones Creek Brethren Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn. on October 21, 2018.2
