Also, his great-grandchildren Antanette, Ashlee, Philip Jr., Jordan, Aaliyah, Joshua, Justice, Madeline, Bryson, and Everett; his great-great-grandson Tavon. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Bella, cat Midnight, and many friends. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020 at Park Cemetery, 620 Lindley Street, Bridgeport. on September 18, 2020.²

Left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Gurdy Manning, Myrtle Underwood, Barbara Conner, Russell Walters, and Gary Walters; and brother-in-law, Vestal Poff. She was the widow of Jacob Vernon Reed and was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxelle R. Burke. Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Louis (Elizabeth R.) Robertson, Martinsville; Mrs. Charles E. (Margaret R.) Adkins, Roanoke; Mrs. Ted (Gaeldeane R.) Meeks, Martinsville; Mrs. Earl L. (Phyllis R.) Huntington, Darien, Conn; one son and daughter-in-law, Wallace V. and Irene Reed, Vinton; one son-in-law, Edward N. Burke, Ocean Hills, Calif; three sisters, Mary B. Baker, Audrey B. Coffey, Vera B. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel 1:00 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Charles Comer officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 4:00 p.m Wednesday, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. on April 24, 1990.⁴

She was born in Richmond County, Ky., on December 15, 1929, to Jacob Vernon Reed and Celestie Evelyn Board Reed. She was a 1949 graduate of Martinsville High School and was employed by BassettWalker Knitting and retired from Pluma in Martinsville. She was a long-time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Young at Heart Group and was also a member of Fontaine Ruritan Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell L. Meeks; and two sisters, Elizabeth Robertson and Maxelle Burke. Surviving are three daughters, Terry Spotz, of Martinsville, Cynthia Flanagan, of Ramona, Okla., and Beth Joyce, of Louisville, Ky; one son, Vernon Meeks, of Martinsville; two sisters, Margaret Adkins, of Roanoke, and Phyllis Huntington, of Palm City, Fla; one brother, Wallace Reed, of Vinton, Va; three grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. The Funeral Service will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Collins-McKeeStone Funeral Home.
