Marvin is survived by Flo Carter his wife of 49 years, Michelle Carter Emery daughter, Brad Emery son-in-law and friend. His loving sisters, Ercell Shepherd, Ila Kelley (Donnie), Judy Williams, Shirley Hawley (Roger) and Wendy Newcomb (Gary). He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Thelma Carter, who he famously told at the age of 17, “Nobody is telling me what to do I’m joining the Army”. Marvin had an honorable discharge despite himself. Also preceding him in death were brothers James, Gerald, and John Carter. Marvin loved a comfortable barstool and a cold Budweiser. He never saw a poker game he didn’t want to get in on. As friends Garry Finney and Don Gerkin know he would take your money if he could. He loved fishing from Canada to Key West but most of all fishing the New River with work buddies Greg, Fred, John and Dave. He loved time spent with his best friend and brother-in-law, John Williams of Philly. He loved his Elks brothers and sisters and participating in charitable events. Most of all he loved his family.4 He was born on November 28, 1944 at Lima, Allen Co., Ohio.1,4 He married Florence Louise Williams on December 21, 1967 at Roanoke, Virginia.1 Marvin Eldridge Carter died on June 8, 2017 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 72.4
