Virginia Lou Graham Mrs. Virginia Lou Graham Jones died peacefully in her home in Henrico, Co. on May 19, 2025, at the age of 86 with her children, William and Jennifer and beloved cat, Thomas by her side. A resident of Radford, VA from 1966-2023 Ginny, the youngest of 10 children, was born in Floyd County, VA to Annie Pearl Yeatts Graham and Andrew Lester Graham. She was raised by her mother and her beloved older brothers, Buddy, Andy and Curtis. A native of Floyd, VA Ginny known then as "Genna Lou" graduated from Floyd High School. She then attended Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing at "the old Jefferson Hospital" in Roanoke, VA. After graduating from nursing school, she became the school nurse at Ferrum Junior College and it was there that she met the love of her life, Franklin. After a three-year courtship they married in 1963 and moved to Athens, GA where Franklin was pursuing his PhD and Ginny became the Head Nurse on the OB unit at the Catholic Hospital. She was proud to say "I delivered many babies from 2 lbs to 12. I didn't lose any of them." Ginny was a lifelong learner. After moving to Radford, she continued her education at Radford University earning a BS degree in Library Science. Once her children became school age, she began teaching in the LPN Nursing Program at Radford High School. While teaching she also earned her Master's degree in Physical Science. In addition to teaching nursing she also taught earth science and was in charge of the Bobcat yearbook for several years. She finished her career as Director of the Nursing Program at Radford High School, where she was directly responsible for training many LPN's throughout the New River Valley and beyond. Ginny was also an avid maker. She loved working with her hands and creating. She was a seamstress, knitter, woodworker, basket maker, quilter, water colorist, and gardener, creating hundreds of pieces of clothing, baskets, quilts, artwork, and beautiful plants, trees and flowers. Ginny loved to serve others; so much so that a church member's daughter called her "The Meals on Wheels lady." Not because she was volunteering for Meals on Wheels, but because it sure seemed like she was as she was always cooking and baking and taking meals to people during times of need. Ginny joined the congregation of The Presbyterian Church of Radford in 1966. She was a devoted church attendee and served in many capacities including as a Sunday school teacher, member of the bell choir and as a Deacon. She also spent many hours sorting jewelry for the Radford Clothing Bank to differentiate the "real stuff" from the other. Ginny read constantly. From historical fiction to romance novels to nonfiction books about WW2 and the Third Reich, she was always reading something. Needless to say, she had many books and magazines in her home that she was always "gonna get to reading." Later in life, she became a proud member of the Daughters of the Revolution researching her family tree for all patriots that served. Ginny's greatest love was her family. Nothing thrilled her more than watching her children and grandchildren do what they love from attending track meets to basketball games to soccer games and musical theater and choir performances- Gmomma was always there to cheer everybody on. She was so proud of her three grandchildren, William Graham Franklin Jones, Elizabeth Carrington Kaufman and Jones Gardner Kaufman who all graduated from high school this spring. She was thrilled that each of them will be attending college. Graham to UVA, Elizabeth to NYU and Gardner to Virginia Tech. She was the best grandmother one could ask for. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Franklin McGehee Jones, her granddaughter Anna Yeatts Kaufman, her sister, Mildred Graham Dallas, her brothers, Buddy, Andrew, Curtis, Hubert and Jimmy Graham and the siblings she never knew. She is survived by her two children, Jennifer Jones Kaufman (Wes) of Richmond and William Franklin Jones (Theresa) of Vienna Va and grandchildren, William Graham Franklin Jones, Elizabeth Carrington Kaufman and Jones Gardner Kaufman. Additionally she is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and their spouses, children and grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Reidlawn Cemetery in Reidsville, NC.2 She was buried at Reidlawn Cemetery, 1530 Barnes Street, Reidsville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.2 She was born on September 7, 1938 at Floyd Co., Virginia.3 As of November 30, 1963,her married name was Jones.4 She married Dr. Franklin McGehee Jones on November 30, 1963 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,6,2,4,5 Virginia Lou Graham died on May 19, 2025 at Henrico Co., Virginia, at age 86.2

Dr. Franklin McGehee Jones was buried at Reidlawn Cemetery, 1530 Barnes Street, Reidsville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.5,6 He Dr. Franklin McGehee Jones died peacefully at his daughter’s home, surrounded by family on August 28, 2020, at the age of 87. Franklin was a resident of Radford, Va. since 1966. He was born in 1933 to William Neuma and Myrtle Soyars Jones. Franklin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Lou Graham Jones. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Anna Yeatts Kaufman. A native of Reidsville N.C., Franklin graduated from Ruffin High School in 1951, and attended Appalachian State University, receiving both a B.S. in science and mathematics and an M.A. in chemistry. He then attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and graduated in 1960 with a master’s degree in science education and chemistry. He received his Ed.D. from the University of Georgia in 1966 after further specialization in science education and chemistry. After earning his Ed.D, Franklin spent his entire career at his beloved Radford University as professor of physical sciences. He wrote and received many grants through the years, funding his work with teachers and students in counties all over SWVA. He also served in several capacities including Chairman of the Department of Physical Science and represented RU on the Intercollegiate Athletic Committee. Franklin distinguished himself as one of the leading science educators not only in Southwest Virginia, but also at the state and national levels, winning many awards for his commitment to science education. With an unassuming manner that masked his unflaggling commitment to making science more accessible and relevant to students from kindergarten to graduate school, Franklin spent nearly six decades as a strong advocate for reform in science education. Dr. Jones grew up a farm boy in Rockingham County, N.C. As a boy he loved to play baseball, broke his nose boxing and was very competitive, yet always played by the rules. His intelligence and tenacity, with encouragement from his parents, drove him to leave the farm and pursue college. He battled health issues his entire life beginning at age 10 when he had rheumatic heart fever and it was thought he would never walk again. He defied odds over and over again with heart challenges and strokes, and was tenaciously fighting for his life until the end. Franklin loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He coached his son’s baseball and basketball teams and daughter’s basketball teams. He always brought his stopwatch to his daughter’s track meets to check her pace. He attended virtually every basketball, baseball, soccer and track meet, home or away. Franklin and Ginny had season tickets to UNC football for years and he loved to watch Carolina basketball. He attended 10 NCAA basketball tournaments and was lucky enough to watch UNC win 3. Together, he and his daughter watched UNC win every one of their championships since 1982. “G-daddy” always had a science toy for his grandchildren. He loved family vacations with everyone all together, and he also loved his cats. He enjoyed debating any subject and talking to young people, as well as spending time at the family farm in N.C. and gardening at his house. Franklin joined the congregation of The Presbyterian Church of Radford, Va. in 1966. He was a devoted church attendee and served several times as a Ruling Elder and Deacon and also served on the pastor search committee. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ginny; and their two children, Jennifer Jones Kaufman (Wes) of Richmond, Va., and William Franklin Jones (Theresa) of Vienna, Va. He was so proud of his three grandchildren, William Graham Franklin Jones, Elizabeth Carrington Kaufman and Jones Gardner Kaufman. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Cecil Ray Jones, niece, Dawn Jones McCollum and her husband, Chris and their children and grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Reidlawn Cemetery in Reidsville, N.C.6 He was born on March 10, 1933 at Reidsville, Rockingham Co., North Carolina.4,5 He married Virginia Lou Graham, daughter of Andrew Lester Graham Sr. and Annie Pearl Yeatts, on November 30, 1963 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,2,3,4,6 Dr. Franklin McGehee Jones died on August 28, 2020 at Richmond, Virginia, at age 87.5,6
