She was a past president of the Fayetteville Women Club and the Mountaineer Garden Club, a member of the Red Hat Club, a past matron of the Fayetteville Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Oak Hill Study Club, a former Girl Scout and Brownie Leader; she was active with the "ANGEL" Support Group. Mary enjoyed quilting, gardening, and she was an avid cat lover. She volunteered at the Fayette County Animal Shelter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Kenny" Sproles and her daughter, Rebecca Lynn Scott. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Greg Sproles and his wife, Linda, of Summersville; two grandchildren, Kelsey Lynn Sproles and Nathaniel Ryan Sproles, both of Summersville; and a host of friends. In keeping with Mary's wishes, her body has been donated to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry. on November 22, 2006.¹

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Burdette was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital at 10:50 a.m. Friday following an automobile accident on the West Virginia Turnpike. Burdette was born Jan. 11, 1903 and was a member of the Beckley Elks Club and Beckley Masonic Lodge 95. He was also a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church and before his retirement was owner and operator of Reliable Cleaners on Third Avenue. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Shawkey Burdette; a son, Dr. B. Hugh Burdette of Boston, Mass; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Parrish of Gainesville, Fla. Pallbearers will be Jason Stewart Lewis IV, Robert B. Sayer, Dr. William W. Clarke, Ralph Murray, Abe C. Burnett and Jack Shawkey. on November 16, 1975.⁴

"Pete" Bock of East Point, a former co-owner of Vintage Wine and Liquors and a former employee of Park-N-Shop Market in Chamblee, died of cardiac arrest Monday at Grady Hospital. He was 79. Burial at Arlington Memorial Park. Mr. Bock was born in Princeton, W.Va., and graduated from Duke University. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marie Clark Bock of East Point, a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Parrish of Raleigh, N.C; two stepdaughters, Miss Theresa McElroy and Ms. Rita Summerville, both of East Point; a brother, Freeman Bock of Ravena, N.Y; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. on October 22, 1985.⁵
