Robert Henry McGuire1,2,3,4,5

M, b. December 6, 1870, d. October 5, 1918
Robert Henry McGuire was buried at Crown Point Cemetery, 1101 East Sycamore St., Kokomo, Howard Co., Indiana.6 He was born on December 6, 1870 at Indiana.3,4,5 He married Mary May Hill, daughter of Noah Hill and Theresia Ellen Colvin, on May 9, 1900 at Tipton Co., Indiana.1 Robert Henry McGuire died on October 5, 1918 at Kokomo, Howard Co., Indiana, at age 47.3,4,5 He Fearing that a live wire he saw dangling from a telephone wire, might result in death of children playing near by Robert McGuire, aged 48 years, seized a stick and undertook to wind it around the pole in such a way that it would be harmless Saturday evening. Mr. McGuire was an employee of the L. R. & L as a section hand and was familiar with the danger of such an undertaking and took every precaution but in some way his hand came in contact with the wire and 2300 volts passed through his body. Death came within a short time and before any assistance came to him. Dr. O. P. Kemp, who was returning from a professional call and accompanied by Brose Warner, was the first to reach McGuire's side. It was evident that McGuire was already dead, but Warner dispatched word for assistance and to get the wire detached that someone else might not meet harm. Mrs. McGuire had learned of her husband's misfortune and hurried to the scene. She was about to throw herself upon his body but was held back by those gathered around lest she receive a shock if not death itself. Mr. McGuire lived at 179 East Deffenbaugh street and was on his way to town to do some shopping when he noticed the loose wire and saw that it was source of danger. He obtained a stick and sought to wrap the broken wire away from the sidewalk. It was fully thirty minutes before it was known that Mr. McGuire had been stricken. Dr. Kemp in passing noticed a blue blaze and was curious to know what it meant as the man's body was not yet visible. Boys had been throwing sticks over the wire to which stones were weighted in sport and this is given by the city electrician as the cause of the breaking of the wire which was old. Mr. McGuire leaves a widow and two children, Dora, aged 16 years, and Charles, aged 14 years. on October 7, 1918.3
